Materialists Beginning to Respect Non-Materialists?

Image
People on social(ist) media, regular media, and in print notice that misotheists often ridicule those of us who believe in immaterial things. A surprising number are inconsistent , believing in psychic matters, prayer, ghosts, and other things. We have seen that atheists are also inconsistent about the mind or soul — many deny it exists, but still look for its location in the brain. Many of us know that the brain is not the mind, but the mind uses  the brain. A neurosurgeon and an atheist had an interesting discussion on consciousness and other things. Brain and consciousness, Pixabay /  Gerd Altmann  (Geralt) The two Mikes. Dr. Michael Egnor is a neurosurgeon and believes that the mind is not simply physiological reactions, Dr. Michael Shermer is an atheist. It is very interesting that Egnor asked Shermer to offer an explanation for near-death experiences that contained verified details. Also, Egnor pressed Shermer to explain immaterial things such as morality: How can a...

False Heads, Dead Leaves, and Other Mimicry

Image
When some creationists post photos of the cobra-like images on the upper wings of the Atlas moth , it is not uncommon for a village atheist to react with derision: "Now I believe in yer gawd, haw, haw! St00pid Xian, it evolved. End of story." Yes, they do that kind of stuff. If this was a one-off example, it could easily be dismissed as a coincidence. Mimicry is surprisingly frequent. Insects can pose as dead leaves, sticks, and seem to have false heads at the tail-ends of wings. A predator nibbles, and the butterfly gets out of Dodge. Dead leaf butterfly, Wikimedia Commons / S herle123 ( CC BY-SA 4.0 ) Researchers studied lycaenid butterflies. Over 900 species. Although the researchers sacrificed their minds to Darwin and paid him homage, they still had a few interesting things to say. For one thing, these designs had several common characteristics and did indeed resemble heads. How did they supposedly evolve gradually over time? The deceptions had to work from the onset, g...

Evolution Explains Practically Everything

Image
There are times when someone is confronted by an accuser, and after giving responses, is told, "You have an answer to everything!" That remark is often sarcastic because some people make things up and give ridiculous excuses. (Of course, the accuser may not want to accept legitimate replies.) Evolution has answers. It is interesting that the puny god of evolution is often treated as a powerful being with the ability to make decisions. A good part of the way evolution explains what is observed is from practiced storytelling, especially those in science fields. Spectacles modified from Freeimages /  Kenn Kiser Life and history (including imagined history) are interpreted through Darwin spectacles. Such a worldview only lets someone see evolution at every turn. There were some "science facts" videos I was watching about biology, but had to leave them in the dust. Some interesting material that was marred by evolutionary stories about the unobserved past, such as "...

The Scopes Monkey Trial — 100 Years Later

Image
There was a trial in July 1925, formally "The State of Tennessee v. John Thomas Scopes." It is often informally known as the "Scopes Monkey Trial." Many people have seen the play or movie Inherit the Wind , which is treated like a documentary but is almost entirely fictional. Alleged  is more accurate . Since this is the 100-year anniversary of this significant event in American society and education, many articles and videos are being produced. I expect to post more than just the two for today. The entire trial was a setup by the American Civil Liberties Union . Scopes Trial day 7 as watercolor painting, original PD , modified at DeepAI Mr. Scopes was in trouble for breaking state law by teaching evolution. He was a substitute teacher and used a biology textbook that was approved by the state . He was arrested and put on trial in something that should have been very quick, but it turned into a circus: God  was in the dock. Although he was found guilty, the repercus...

The Camp Mystic Tragedy, God, and Darwinism

Image
Most Americans probably know of the July 4, 2025 flash flood tragedies in Texas. The one that is most prominent is Camp Mystic for Girls near Hunt, Texas. At this writing, twenty-seven campers and counselors are dead, and others are still missing. In this and other disasters, people wonder, "Where is God?" There is a word for attempts to reconcile the love of God (or even his existence) with evil in the world. It is theodicy , but academic discussions can seem glib or self-serving. Interestingly, the Camp Mystic tragedy is a challenge to atheists and other Darwinists. Camp Mystic, Flickr / crawford orthodontics ( CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 ) The camp is a nondenominational Christian. It was established in 1926 as Stewart's Camp for Girls. It was sold in 1937 to the Stacy family. Somewhere along the line, the name was changed to Camp Mystic because the morning mist on the Guadalupe River  gave the area a mystic feel, There had been several previous incidents of flooding over the ye...

Religiously Atheistic in Naturalism

Image
Philosophy and science have been linked from way back when, but some folks think that science is something that stands alone. The secular science industry tends go whole hog into atheistic scientism, a religion in its own right . A philosophy in scientific investigation is methodological naturalism . There are people who assume that Christians and creationists will not do the work of science, citing the Creator and not digging into the research. Methodological naturalism is supposed to be a neutral ground, but such a thing does not exist. In fact, scientists are being railroaded into a naturalistic religion. Train waiting on tracks, Unsplash / Cowboy Bob Sorensen Secularists may object that atheism and naturalism are not religious because there is no deity involved. That excuse is disingenuous because users ignore the other definitions of religion; naturalism and atheism are a hand-in-glove worldview. (Indeed, atheism is assumed in academia, harming religious students ). Scientists who...

Stomping the Human-Chimp DNA Similarity Myth

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  Edited 14 July 2025 Scientific research is unfriendly to atoms-to-ape evolution, and the icon of ninety-eight percent similarity of human and chimpanzee similarity has been long been disputed. Indeed, it is based on bad science that is omitted from the secular science industry propaganda [ 1 ]. Research in chimpanzee genome supports biblical creation science [ 2 , 3 ] instead of evolution. Darwin's disciples get mighty irritated when people say that we evolved from apes or monkeys. We supposedly split from a common ancestor that looks like a monkey [ 4 ] — but they are assuming its appearance. Human-Chimpanzee DNA, made at Night Cafe , then removebg The number for human-chimpanzee similarity varies by a few percentage points, but usually about ninety-eight percent. Darwin's disciples need such a close match because apes and humans allegedly diverged around seven million years ago. That means evolutionists cannot account for a larger percentage difference...

Sea Turtles and Magnetic Field Navigation

Image
If it ever comes up in the workplace break room, there is a simple way to tell the difference between a turtle and tortoise . (Well, except for the little detail that all tortoises are considered turtles, but not the other way around.) There are other distinguishing characteristics, but turtles live mostly in or around water, and tortoises live on land. The more we learn, the more fascinating nature becomes. Critters are created with specialized traits. Like several others, sea turtles migrate by tuning into Earth's magnetic field. New research takes this trait even further. Juvenile green sea turtle, Flickr / Silke Baron ( CC BY 2.0 ) Loggerhead sea turtles calculate longitude for use in migration. They can remember certain geomagnetic locations, an ability unique to these creatures. Another benefit is that they can find their way back to nesting locations — even after several years. The specified complexity of the mechanisms involved gives Darwin the sads. They also testify of t...

Failures of both Behaviorism and Darwinism

Image
There are many schools of psychology, some of which borrow concepts from each other. They are all wrong because they are not only atheistic but also have Darwinian foundations. Although secular psychologists deny the existence of the soul (mind, consciousness), they still try to understand it . In behaviorism, humans are essentially meat machines. They respond to stimuli — behaviors come from conditioning. This includes reward and punishment. Conditioning is gradual, a piece here and there over time. Interestingly, some aspects of behaviorism can be accurate. Brain and network, Pixabay /  Gerd Altmann  (Geralt) Psychologists lost their affection for behaviorism because they liked cognitive approaches and because it failed to explain language. The extreme specified complexity of language speaks (heh!) of the Creator , which flies in the faces of Darwinism and behaviorism. The Intelligent Design article linked below ends with a bit of a cop-out: "The science is clear. Mind, not ...

Samuel Wilberforce Dismantled Darwin

Image
His father,  William, was a Christian and a slavery abolitionist , and Samuel (1805-1873) took his faith further. He became a bishop in the Church of England. Samuel was also a contemporary of Charles Darwin and unimpressed by his work. Interestingly, scientists tended to reject Darwin's version of evolution while the clergy was embracing deep time, then eventually rode for the Darwin brand. Wilberforce is known for a misrepresentation of his confrontation of T.H. Huxley . There something else of significance that is less known. Samuel Wilberforce by George Richmond , 1868 Sam was involved in a debate with Darwinists and also published an essay in 1860. He did one thing that I deplore in any Christian apologetics effort, and that was to leave God out of the discussions. However, he did take Darwin to task on scientific grounds. "But Cowboy Bob, he had no business taking on Darwin because he wasn't a scientist!" Actually, Darwin's only degree was in theology — he ...

Artificial Intelligence — Threat and Disappointment

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen It seems like practically everywhere we turn, AI is in use. Some people consider it a tool, others a threat . We can interact with it unknowingly. My most frequent use is internet searches; AI gets the query, scours the web, and answers rapidly. Plus it gives links for research. For the arts, I want material done by people. Sure, use computers and AI for small adjustments, but overall, make it human. A Christian hard rock channel on YouTube has at least eight "albums" by a fake band, and the write-up is deceptive . AI Cyborg adored by mindless masses* Some folks don't want AI writing and "performing" their music because it's sterile; it lacks...soul. The "band" mentioned above has Christian lyrics, but since so much material is cranked out, I lack belief that anyone is checking the lyrics for theological accuracy. Christian lyrics, even sermons, by AI should be of concern to Christians. People dislike artificial intelligence ...

The Increasing Intelligence of Neanderthals

Image
Some folks still cling to the image of Neanderthals as stupid brutes, but calling someone a Neanderthal as an insult is actually a compliment. The more they are studied, the more they are found to be fully human — but some evolutionists do not want to admit this fact. Neanderthals are known to have cooked with fire, had skillful cave paintings, made and wore jewelry, seem to have had religious views — and traveled extensively. In fact, they intermarried. Their DNA is found in people of European and Asian ancestry, more so in Melanesia. Neanderthal person, WikiComm / Neanderthal-Museum, Mettmann ( CC BY-SA 4.0 ), modified at PhotoFunia Odd that Melanesia is in the DNA list. We're talking about an area north and east of Australia, Fiji and those islands. I doubt that they traveled that far from Europe, but someone gave DNA to those people. Speaking of travel, the toolmaking of Neanderthals has been labeled  Quina , which is very distinct. So why is it found in East Asia? Maybe they ...

Communication Itself is Irreducibly Complex

Image
One of the most aggravating concepts for Darwinoids is irreducible complexity , a concept that Michael Behe of the Intelligent Design movement named, but biblical creationists have been using for years. Essentially, everything must be in place and fully functional at the same time, or nothing works. Evolutionists try to get around the problem , but although they may find weaknesses in some examples, the concept itself is still is a serious problem for them. They cannot explain how necessary components evolved through time, chance, and mutations. Communication is irreducibly complex. Books of languages, Freeimages /  dog madic Communication requires  expression, reception,  and  comprehension . (Note that in this definition, communication is one way. A two-way communication would be a conversation.)  Trees and other plants in the Wood Wide Web have special nonverbal communication, and critters like birds and prairie dogs sound calls of alarm or help. Verbal comm...

The False Fronts of Evolution

Image
It is often said that someone has a false front or is putting on a façade. That is, presenting an appearance that is not necessarily true. In architecture, a façade would be the front of a building that was given extra treatment. Potemkin villages were mostly fictional, almost entirely false fronts. Yes, people want to present themselves in a good way, but it should not be for deceptive purposes. Disciples of Darwin have built false fronts for various aspects of the evolution story. News media, scientists, and atheists present these façades with the expectation that they will be believed. Ironside false front ruins, Flickr / Larry Myhre ( CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 ) Putting up the fronts was an easier task in the early days of old evolutionism. After all, they did not have nearly the insight into so many things that have been brought by education and technology; the cell is not so simple. DNA was unknown and parts of it were considered "junk" until they were discovered to be important...

Evolutionists Making their own Laws

Image
As any well-schooled child knows, there are rankings in science. Someone makes observations and makes a few predictions for a hypothesis. This can graduate to a theory if it is well-substantiated with facts and testing. A law is something that summarizes observations and is unchanging under certain conditions. Charles Darwin had speculations or a hypothesis of evolution at best, but not a theory — and definitely not a law . Some owlhoots took a notion to fabricate a new law to explain how life as they see it has increasing complexity. Police cars at night (slightly modified), Unsplash / Acton Crawford This fundamentally-flawed thinking involves evolutionary presuppositions. Also, it has deep time assumptions. Add to this the thought that some laws take up where others fail, such as Newtonian rules getting replaced by quantum mechanics or relativity. No, those two things only apply in special circumstances, but there is no "replacement" going on. These scientists think evoluti...

Life and Planetary Habitability — Working Two Ways?

Image
It looks like requirements for habitability on extrasolar planets are getting more complicated, even mystical. The planetary habitable zone concept was simple, where water was a must , the right kind of star, proper distance from it, and a few others to make the Goldilocks Zone. Not only are hopes of finding lucky planets in that zone dimming , there is speculation that for a planet to be able to support life, it must have life. Sounds like the concept is folding in on itself, but it is being considered. HD 149026b (Smertrios),  NASA  / JPL-Caltech / T. Pyle (SSC) (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) Study on it a spell: Living things have an impact on their environments. (For example, beavers help ecosystems and supposed climate change . Also, creatures under the ground have tremendous effects.) Researchers examined the energy that critters produce, which is significant — and it was from a limited number. Someone wondered if the need for an ecosystem is an ar...

Science Authorities Self-Destruct in Cancel Culture

Image
Although it seems less frequent nowadays, cancel culture  is a method of punishing those who dare to go against the prevailing viewpoint. I believe that people want to be "right" or in the "best" movement, whether it is religious (including atheism), a political party, or something else. Those who disagree are shunned and even canceled. A form of this happened when C. Richard Dawkins was "deplatformed" at the University of California, Berkeley. He said something people did not like about Islam. He has said other things that caused people to dislike him. These come about because someone goes against the trend. Image from "The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton" by Sidney Paget , Strand Magazine , 1904 (enhanced at iLoveIMG ) Creation science and the Intelligent Design movement are unwanted on social(ist) media, and many times atheists try to have it stamped out. Calls for trolling raids, feculent comments, ridicule, and more are common fare ...

Concealed Layers of Design

Image
Those with Atheism Spectrum Disorder suppress evidence for the existence of God that is clearly seen (Romans 18:1), needing to repeat the mantra that things only appear  designed. They would have to count many Darwin beads and chant very fast when seeing hidden layers of complexity. In medical science and other areas of biology, advances in technology enable us to view microscopic things we never realized existed, such as cellular machines. In the trees, under the soil, in the oceans are amazingly complex worlds testifying of the Designer. View of Onteora Lake, Unsplash / Cowboy Bob Sorensen George Washington Carver was a Christian and a creationist. He prayed for wisdom, and God guided him to discover about 300 uses for the peanut. The peanut . It was designed to have many uses. Indeed, Proverbs 25:2 tells us that God has concealed things, and kings discover them. They are not hidden because he does not want them found, but concealed so his work is gradually seen in many areas. H...

Consciousness and the Organic Brain Machine

Image
At one time, people had souls. Some classical philosophers called it perception. Nowadays, secular scientists and philosophers are almost making their research into a comedy by their conflicting views. Many deny the existence of consciousness but still try to find it in the brain. Someone named Mr. Gordons referred to humans as "meat machines." Alan McComas is a neurosurgeon, one of many people to think they have a location for consciousness in the brain — which he says is an organic machine. Brain as a machine,  MR LIGHTMAN  at FreeDigitalPhotos.net His comparison may seem reasonable at first, but it has some problems because his criteria can make many things into "machines". Also, McComas thinks those clumps of neurons called hippocampi are where consciousness resides. This idea falls apart as well. The truth is that we are created in the image of God, each one with a soul (or consciousness), and it is not a part of the container in which it resides. Over centurie...
