Misattributing Evidence for Design

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  Many people say that evidence for the Designer is clearly obvious in many ways, even showing his engineering and planning skills, love of beauty, and more. Even the single-celled  Stentor coeruleus  shows intricacy found in multicellular organisms. The wealthy and intelligent Elon Musk was asked about the Creator , and he said, "I believe this universe came from something. People have different labels." I do not think he simply meant that the word God  is not the same in all languages. Chromosomes, National Human Genome Research Institute (public domain) There are people who admit that the universe and life itself were designed, but they distance themselves from the Designer. Believers in microbes-to-microscopist evolution study things like chromosomes and then gleefully give the credit to evolution. While evolution is pantheistic in nature (is is an ancient religious and philosophical belief, after all), it is not a person and cannot make de...

Trusting the History in the Bible

Image
As mentioned previously , atheists have a fondness for calling the Bible "fairy tales." Even a cursory reading of the Bible and fairy tales reveal marked differences. Myths, fairy tales, and legends tend to be vague but the Bible has dates and locations. Short videos are very popular now and many have nice stories with happy endings. F'rinstance, the waitress in the diner noticed the young boy was not acting right and saved his life — but zero  details. Look for those next time you watch one and use healthy skepticism. Universe and Bible, Pixabay /  Alex Myers  and  Maicon Fonseca Zanco Scoffers may say that people just decided to make up a religion and wrote a book to support it, which is risible to thinking people. If you  were going to make up a religion and give its history, wouldn't you construct the characters as really wonderful folks? The Bible records betrayal, bad decisions, and other things, revealing that the people were genuine. Indeed, there are fo...

The Red Sea and the Israelite Crossing

Image
Something that has been discussed, and probably cussed, for centuries is where the Israelites crossed the Red Sea. The subject in question raises questions about many other subjects. After all, the Exodus from Egypt was over 3,000 years ago. Unfortunately, places no longer exist, sands have shifted, locations are uncertain, and more. Historical records are extremely important, but Egyptian chronologies are misleading. Despite the rantings of atheopaths, the Bible is not "fairy tales," and it contains detailed historical information.  Dust blowing over the Red Sea, NASA GSFC, Jesse Allen To complicate matters, some folks try to take this clearly miraculous event and try to make it into a naturalistic coincidence. Yes, the wind blew. The Bible said so. But that does not take away the power and presence of God. (The idea of the wind blowing so hard that all those Israelites crossed over, then the waters drowned Pharaoh's army in a shallow area is ridiculous.) There are sev...

Benefits from Hurricanes?

Image
It may be a mite baffling for some when hearing about typhoons, hurricanes, and cyclones. Are they different storms? Pretty much the same type of thing with names based on their locations. Those in the Northern Hemisphere rotate counterclockwise and those in the Southern Hemisphere rotate clockwise. What may be surprising is that these big storms have many benefits. (Indeed, lightning striking the ground is beneficial .) That is something unlikely to appear on a news broadcast because fear and destruction are good for viewership ratings. Sometimes we hear about how they form, though. Hurricane Erin, NASA Earth Observatory / Michala Garrison These monsters of destruction are actually beneficial for life on Earth. Hurricanes help the global heat balance by absorbing heat energy and redistributing it. They also replenish water supplies and rainfall, and the rotations encourage new plant growth. And much more. Secularists hand wave the benefits as products of evolution, but study on this a...

Myth of Natural Selection in Galápagos Finches

Image
There is something contradictory in evolutionary icons, especially regarding Charles Darwin himself. Some folks get obstreperous over the use of the word Darwinism , saying that nobody believes that anymore. That word is a convenience since people know what is being discussed. However, using Galápagos finches' beak variation as evidence of evolution through natural selection is still proclaimed. It was an icon for many years without actually examining the claims in depth. The truth is far more complex than many people realize. And the finches? They did not change into something else. Colorized version of John Gould's Galapagos Finches, 1837 Although natural selection in its true sense fits well with biblical creation science, some creationists reject it (including the president of the organization for the article linked below). There may be things that need to be clarified, such as rejecting the Bearded Buddha's claim that natural selection is a creative force (traditional...

Fraud Crisis in the Secular Science Industry

Image
Many people have an exalted view of science organizations as having an unbiased search for truth, using flawless logic, correcting the few errors made, publishing honest reports, and all that good stuff. Regular readers here as well as others who look behind the façade know otherwise. Fundamental in the secular science industry is publishing research, especially in peer-reviewed journals. The pressure is tremendous and there are many possibilities for poor research and fraud to slip in. Indeed, there is a kind of fake paper industry going on. Detroit building ruins, Unsplash / Laura Brain , modified at PhotoFunia Science fraud is increasingly common. With advances in technology, it is also becoming easier to make a dishonest paper look good. Overworked, hurried reviewers are less likely to find treachery, unethical behavior, or errors. Also, they are unable to police their own, who are living according to their "survival of the fittest" worldview; if fraud helps them survive ...

Still no Population III Stars for the Big Bang

Image
A popular internet saying among folks who reject the Big Bang is, "In the beginning, there was nothing. Which exploded." While some supporters downplay the explosion which supposedly began everything,  they affirm the Frankensteined-in cosmic inflation — which is not even a hypothesis . After the secular miracle of the Big Bang, the universe rapidly expanded and stars formed. These were primarily hydrogen and helium. Stars grew old, blew up, scattered debris, formulated the other elements, and all that good stuff. Those first stars formed are called population III. Artist’s impression, field of Population III stars, NOIRLab / NSF / AURA  J. da Silva / Spaceengine / M. Zamani ( CC BY 4.0 ) Just as there is no evidence for the existence of the Oort cloud as a source of long-term comets, there is no evidence of population III stars of the early universe. But the secular science industry requires these things in their cosmic evolution narratives. Interesting that cosmologists g...

Fishes and Plants Survived the Genesis Flood

Image
Biblical creationists believe what the Bible says about creation, which includes how the earth is young. The global Genesis Flood has many attributes that secularists avoid or try to explain away. Many times, questions are asked in bad faith; they think will destroy the belief system of creationists. Some of those questions resonate with Christians as well because they have wondered the same thing — but they genuinely want to know the answers. One of these is about how plants and fishes survived the Genesis Flood, since saltiness levels would have changed. NOAA Fisheries image of two sturgeons Keep in mind that people are starting from current knowledge about the world, but there are facts about the antediluvian world for which we can only speculate. Even so, there are characteristics of living plants and animals that can be examined and reach some possibly surprising answers. For several points to consider, click on " How did fish and plants survive the Genesis Flood? "

Hot Evolution, Salamander in the City

Image
Once again, a comment was made on a post doubting evolution with another claim that "evolution has been seen to occur." Uh huh. With the disingenuous elasticity of definitions, any variation that is seen  is called evolution, as is speciation — the latter is something creationists agree with. Fire salamanders were used as an example of evolution in action. Centuries ago, walls were built around religious buildings. These lizards could not climb the walls, so they were separated from their pals. Each group evolved in its own way. Fire salamander ( Salamandra salamandra ), WikiComm / Petar MiloÅ¡ević ( CC BY-SA 4.0 ) Of course, the owlhoot making the remark ignored the fact that they didn't change into something else. They remained fire salamanders. The idea was taken further that building cities changes evolution. The additional claim that religion and cultural practices cause evolution is...truly bizarre. The Master Engineer designed organisms to adapt. Evolution is not a...

Myth of the Age of Reptiles

Image
Way back in 1947,  Rudolph Zallinger completed a five-year project . He painted a huge mural called  The Age of Reptiles  that can be seen Yale Peabody Museum. It garnered awards, and a section was used on a  US postage stamp in 1970  (Scott catalog 1390). Scientific views of dinosaurs have changed, so some depictions are now inaccurate. Unfortunately, his work was based on a myth promoted by atheists and other minerals-to-Megalosaurus evolutionists. The so-called Age of Reptiles is a myth to help bolster the greater myth of evolution. Tyrannosaurus rex  toy figure, Pixabay /  Eric Labayle Biblical creationists reject the Age of Reptiles on theological grounds, but this is not just a simplistic reaction. It is based on the study of biblical texts and logic. Something else to consider was how Charles Lyell, a lawyer who was instrumental in establishing deep time, wanted to devalue the Bible. Not only was the myth of the Age entirely made up, ...
