Flume Experiments, Geological Strata, and the Genesis Flood

Although it raises hackles on secularists, geology is a historical science. Scientists use what is observed in the present to try and determine what went on in the past. Ken Ham and other biblical creationists have famously pointed out that if there was a global Genesis Flood, there would be obvious evidence.

This evidence include trillions of fossils buried in rock layers laid down by water all over the earth, geological strata, and more. Conventional geologists have some stories, but there are some experiments that support creation science models.

Geological strata and formations span continents, which in itself is evidence for a global Flood. Many layers were deposited horizontally. Some went sideways. Using repeatable science and applying it to the past, flume experiments help explain vertical deposits and provide other evidence for the Flood — and fly in the face of uniformitarian geology.

Sedimentologist Guy Berthault was one of a team who made an important discovery regarding how the world’s sedimentary layers were deposited. These geological strata are clearly-defined beds of sedimentary rock that often have the appearance of bands or stripes of alternating or repeating layers. Most people have noticed them in cliffs, where they are often seen in side view. Grand Canyon comes to mind, where bold horizontal layering in the sides of the canyon is a major visual feature.
