New Fossil Bats, Still No Evolution

Image
In the Southwestern United States, there is a place popular with geologists and paleontologists called the Green River Formation . There are several rivers and tributaries called Green River, and this area is a tributary of the Colorado River. The formation and basins include several states. Since so much research is done in the formation, it is not surprising to get news from there. What may have been surprising to secular scientists is how the new bat fossils they discovered gave no clues to an alleged evolutionary ancestor of bats. Since secularists don't play the hand they're dealt, they reshuffle and deal from the bottom of the deck. In this case, the unevolving bat fossils did not fit their paradigm, so they tacked on two million years to bad origins. Sure, why not? If it helps keep the story going and avoid the fact of recent creation by the God of the Bible, they'll find ways. The Green River Formation is also interesting because of varves (thin layers of sediment).

Nevada Crocodile Fossil and Opposing Models

Image
When the hand one is dealt is not playing well, cheat. After all, secular scientists seem to be doing that more and more. One example is the definition of archosaur . It has certain physical characteristics and includes crocodilians, dinosaurs, pterosaurs — and birds. Quite a broad category, and includes the tendentious assumption  that birds evolved from dinosaurs. Evidence and logic differ about that last part. A new fossil pseudosuchian (expensive word for crocodile) species was discovered in Nevada. That is counterintuitive, since those critters do not live so far inland. Crocodile, Pixnio /  Steve Hillebrand , USFWS Another species? That's nice. That also fits with biblical creation science models. Of course, like the assumption that birds evolved from dinosaurs and are related to archosaurs, secular scientists assume that crocodiles evolved even though there is no evidence of it. They also have to deal with the location of this one, as well as mixtures of organisms fossilized

Falling Stone Arches and the Genesis Flood

Image
A common attraction for geologists and tourists is Arches National Park in Utah, which has thousands of stone arches. It may be surprising to some people to learn that such arches exist around the world, and Kentucky has a passel of them itself. Take a trip to the Daniel Boone National Forest and Red River Gorge to see some. There are many arches in the formerly United States, but not all are the big ones. Some are on the small side. What is more interesting is that some have been collapsing. Skybridge arch - Red River Gorge, Wikimedia Commons / Smokemob ( CC BY 3.0 ) Secular scientists say that stone arches last thousands of years and then fall. Interestingly, people seemed to think the arches would last indefinitely. To be standing on one when it collapsed could spoil a day. Certain arches are actively monitored to see if they are becoming dangerous. There are two articles to consider in this post, the first being shorter and more general. Take a look-see at " The Age of Arc

Snowball Earth Never Ends

Image
Secular geologists wear Deep Time Spectacles, so any data they observe is interpreted to indicate millions or billions of years. Keep in mind that secular, creation, and Intelligent Design scientists all have the same data to work with. It invariably comes down to worldviews and presuppositions. May as well fill those millions of years (that Darwin needs to perform his wonders) with a passel of events. Creationists believe the evidence shows only one Ice Age while secularists believe in many. One of a controversial idea on the secular side is Snowball Earth. Snowball Earth, Flickr /  guano  ( CC BY-SA 2.0 ) There is plenty of evidence that the Ice Age happened, but only in a portion of the Northern Hemisphere. Snowball Earth presents glaciation extending all the way down toward the equator. Not all secular geologists ride for that brand, and with good reason: It never ends. Not only are secularists unable to postulate a believable cause for the Ice Age, but they cannot find a way to en

More Possible Evidence for Catastrophic Plate Tectonics

Image
In the late sixteenth century, it was speculated that continents were not static, but moved. Others considered this, and eventually Alfred Wegener ran continental drift up the flagpole in 1915, but nobody saluted it. Arthur Holmes provided a better version in 1931. Eventually, it evolved into plate tectonics. Biblical creation science takes plate tectonics up several levels. Dr. John Baumgardner proposed catastrophic  plate tectonics. The ocean floor during the Genesis Flood was subducted into the earth's mantle, and it was done much faster than is happening today. Common Cross Section of a Subduction Zone, Wikimedia Commons / Eround1 ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ) That's easy to say, especially since rapid subduction is not seen now. Scientists demand evidence for models (or should do so), and creationists even more so because they go against uniformitarian assumptions (slow and gradual processes; the present is the key to the past). Dr. Baumgardner pointed out evidence for his ideas sever

Radiometric Dating has Fatal Flaws

Image
When someone claims to be a former creationist, there are many telling signs that invariably appear. One is lack of knowledge of biblical creation science. Second, poor knowledge of theology. Third, they attack creationism, defend evolution and especially an old Earth. In their passionate efforts, the fourth trait is to show misunderstanding of dating methods. There are other things apostates show, but their claims that dating methods prove an old Earth are of interest at this time. Also, they are welcomed by atheists and other anti-creationists. Zircon octahedral crystal, Flickr / candiru (PD) Radiometric dating is often treated as a creation killer since biblical creationists hold to the earth being thousands of years old while these dating methods seem to show millions or billions of years. Contrary evidence, or evidence supporting recent creation, is downplayed. (I remember an atheist bringing up the age of the earth and using a preemptive strike with the genetic fallacy , saying

The Great Oxidation Event Lives Again!

Image
To be a fully vested card-carrying evolutionist and learn the secret handshake, one must believe some stories that are...truly bizarre. Fake science must be implemented very quickly — especially supporting deep time. Papa Darwin needs it, and yee yaw boy howdy, secularists are going to give it to him! For evolution to work, Earth could not have the present oxygen-rich atmosphere. The story (which sounds a lot like magic) has low oxygen levels, microbe activity, then high oxygen levels. That malarkey was discredited several times over — and it has been brought back again. Ashokan Reservoir, Unsplash / Cowboy Bob Sorensen Like with many other evolutionary and geological myths that are poorly supported by science, the secular science industry needs the Great Oxidation Event, so it was retooled. Now there are several, because Earth wasn't ready for oxygen. Therefore, it was like a seesaw so things could evolve and get ready for full oxygenation. Once again, evolutionism smacks of panth

Megalakes of the Sahara

Image
Long ago, the Sahara was a really great place. Lots of lakes, good for fishing and swimming — it probably was not called Sahara, as that name is derived from Arabic  ṣaḥrāʾ which means desert. The fact that the region was wet is known to researchers. Something in dispute is the existence of megalakes. There is still Lake Chad, an important water supply and ecosystem that touches on four countries. It is large now, but was much bigger in the past. Today it is fed by rivers. Sahara sand dune, USDA / E.L Skidmore (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) There is evidence that these megalakes existed, but residents of the secular science industry tend to ignore them or even deny their reality. One reason is that they cannot give a plausible explanation for how they formed. On the other hand, biblical creation scientists have an explanation to offer that involves the Ice Age, which happened much quicker than proponents of an old earth would like to consider. Researchers have l

Dating Problems with Fossil Footprints

Image
Down New Mexico way, a traveler can find White Sands National Park . Lots of big dunes comprised of gypsum. Have you ever gone sand sledding? That and other National Park activities like camping, hiking trails, stargazing and such are there. Also, fossilized footprints. They had mammoths, giant sloths, and many creatures in what was once a much nicer climate. Yes, there are human footprints as well. Assigning dates to them are a vexation to secular scientists because the results conflict with the narrative of when humans were supposed to live there. Fossil footprints, White Sands National Park / NPS photo (usage does not imply endorsement), modified at PhotoFunia Scientists are disagreeing about the carbon dating results, which showed that humans were in North America sooner than secular views expect and conflicts with the evolutionary story. Radiometric dating is dependent on assumptions , so the carbon dating used on relevant plants can be adjusted to more convenient levels. The sam

Secularists Affirm Global Catastrophes Elsewhere but not Earth

Image
Things got interesting at my place with surprise visitors and all. First, Darwin Ranch foreman Rusty Swingset and his lady friend Jacqueline Hyde (who was not herself that day) dropped in on their way to Deception Pass. We yakked about what may be getting built in town, and they left. About five minutes later, I was surprised when Stevia Dolce (the baker at the Darwin Ranch) knocked at my door. She brought some croissants. However, she said she waited until the others had gone because she did not want them to know that she visited. Color-enhanced image of the delta in Jezero Crater on Mars, NASA / JPL et al. (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) Stevia keeps mum about her evolution doubts because she needs the job at the ranch. (I know the feeling, as I have to do the same when dealing with "pride" month and science deniers who have "preferred pronouns".) Anyway, I told Stevia that she doesn't need to give me baked goods or other gifts, that I fre

Hot Springs National Park and the Genesis Flood

Image
It seems that people all around the world are fond of hot springs, so they often turn areas into spas and such. Down Arkansas way is Hot Springs National Park , which was enjoyed by people for centuries. A unique feature is that the water does not stink of sulfur like in other hot springs. Although it is a comparatively small national park, it covers a large area. Also, there is hiking, camping, and other national park stuff to do. In addition, the park service's educational aspect is saturated with deep time assumptions. Tufa rock at Hot Springs National Park, NPS Photo / Mitch Smith (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) One glaring inconsistency common among secular geologists is used here. Namely, that the folded rocks took their shapes over millions of years due to plate tectonics. Pick up a slab of flint and try to fold it. In fact, use hydraulic machinery. What happens? It shatters, of course. No folding here, mate. There is also the problem of a small stream i

Concrete, Cement, and Algae

Image
It seems that many people do not know the difference between concrete and cement, so here is the hard truth. There are several stages involved in making concrete , the porous stuff that people drive on or live in. It begins with limestone, which is thought to take millions of years to form. Limestone and a silica source are heated, then the result is ground to powder. Other ingredients are added. When this mixture is going to be turned into concrete, cement , water, and other things are mixed in to make the concrete. Algae is turning those deep-time assumption upside-down. Coccolithophore bloom SW of Ireland, Flickr / NASA Goddard Space Flight Center ( CC BY 2.0 ) Coccolithophores  are marine algae that build protective shells around themselves. The shells of these bad boys make chalk (a form of limestone) deposits, and uniformitarian scientists say chalk takes millions of years to form. Not in this case! Further, coccolithophores could have been producing huge quantities of the stuff

Great Sand Dunes, the Ice Age, and the Genesis Flood

Image
Heading west in the formerly United States, a traveler encounters the Rocky Mountains (which we generously share with Canada). The state of Colorado has the  Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve , larger than the Sleeping Bear Dunes of Michigan. You ever walk onto a sandy beach and make ouch noises because it is hot? In the summer, these puppies are substantially hotter than the air temperature. We will move on to discuss how the dunes got there. Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve, Flickr / NPS Natural Resources (public domain) Consider sand a spell (like when you remembered hot-footing it on the beach). It is unique and small. Both uniformitarian and creation geologists agree that there have to be special conditions to make a sand dune in the first place, and there are also conditions that can stop it from happening, such as grass growing. Conditions today would not let those dunes form, so they obviously had to be very different in the past. The culprit is the Ice

Continental Erosion and the Young Earth

Image
As creation science develops, conjectures about the past come and go. The Genesis Flood  by Whitcomb and Morris in 1961 put forward some ideas about science while maintaining adherence to biblical truth. Some of its ideas have been discarded, others have had further development. There are some evidences for the young earth that have been offered are still valid today, and believers in deep time as well as universal common descent evolution cannot refute them. One of these evidences is continental erosion. Limestone and mountain, Unsplash / Cowboy Bob Sorensen Signs of erosion are obvious practically everywhere. A mountain has pieces of rock in many sizes because of erosion from wind and water, rivers erode their banks, oceans do their share of erosion. Wind is everywhere, doing its part as well. Uniformitarian beliefs have rates remaining essentially the same today as well as the thrilling days of yesteryear. Using their own material against them, the continents should not even exist a

The Parallel Roads of Glen Roy

Image
After traveling on the racing circuit, Miles Prower decided to return to these parts for a spell. He told me of a solo excursion to the difficult-to-reach Glen Roy in the Scottish Highlands to see the Parallel Roads. Legends have it that they were made by kings, Finegal the Giant, or faeries. Miles was very interested in what are called the Parallel Roads of Glen Roy, and the story secular geologists tell about their formation is slightly more plausible than giants making them. Shorelines of glacial lakes are the usual explanation. Parallel Roads of Glen Roy, Flickr / IrenicRhonda ( CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 ) As seen with the Chicxulub big rock dinosaur extinction story, uniformitarian scientists tend to ignore certain important details that foul up their narratives. In this case, the movement of glaciers doesn't work with the story. Also like Chicxulub (and other geologic features), creation science models for the Ice Age caused by the Genesis Flood fit the observed evidence quite handil

New Island Formed from Underwater Volcanic Eruption

Image
Way out yonder south of Tokyo is an area that is of great interest to geologists. It is where the Ogasawara (or Bonin) Islands are found, which is an archipelago. It is also the area of the island of the Iwo Jima volcano. Its lava flow was sufficient enough to produce a small island in the Pacific. Yes, many islands are the product of volcanic activity. There is no guarantee that it will last very long, but researchers are looking forward to analyzing what develops there. Ogasawara islands , Wikimedia Commons (PD) Volcanic eruptions are often drawn-out events, not just a blast and let the debris settle. This eruption was ongoing as of the date of the short article featured below. A science writer asserted deep time, but that was imagination and pushing the narrative, not empirical science. Also, she apparently she forgot about how rapidly the island of Surtsey formed and was colonized by living things — which fits Genesis Flood models in creation science. Not for the first time, and li

The Ecstasy and Necessity of Gold

Image
Roland Meadows was with my prospector friend, his fiancée Stormie Waters. I found them at a stream near her home and watched them panning for gold. After a spell, I asked why she found gold so compelling. Her answer surprised me. She was not expecting to get rich but was doing all right. Like so many others, she likes the color and weight. Gold has been the object of much killing and theft. It is also discussed frequently in the Bible, and she added that it applies to the attributes of God in many ways. Dubai Gold Sauk, RGBStock / opinto In Revelation, we read that we're going to walk on pure gold in the streets of the New Jerusalem. The antagonist of James Bond in Goldfinger  is Auric Goldfinger (yes, there are people with that surname). Auric means "of gold" or something, but note the first two letters: AU, which is the chemical symbol of this element. None of that is relevant to anything, I'm just showing off something I noticed. There are many applications for gol

Evolution Narrative Drives Bird Tracks in Dinosaur Strata Story

Image
The story is that the geologic column shows fossils in an orderly progression from simple to complex, and the fossil record is complete, without gaps. Russell Watchtower and his Ministry of Truth at the Darwin Ranch up near Deception Pass have been successfully convincing folks that the preceding is a true story. In reality, there are fossils out of order. If people had healthy skepticism and dared to question evolution, they would know about fossil placement problems. A new report on fossilized bird footprints sparked a rescuing device. It did not go well. One of the birdlike footprints from Maphutseng, Lesotho (left), and a false colour depth map of the print (right) PLOS ONE 2023 / Abrahams et al. 2023 (CC-BY 4.0) via New Scientist There must be quite a few stupid people buying the malarkey that evolutionists put out. The predominant narrative dictates that dinosaurs evolved into birds despite no actual evidence. Instead of questioning the story, some other critters came around and

The Ice Age and Sleeping Bear Dunes

Image
The lower peninsula of Michigan is rather large, and when the upper peninsula is added, the size is more impressive. In the northern regions, there are interesting features testifying of the Genesis Flood, including Mackinac Island and Pictured Rocks . People from Lower Michigan have convenient maps of the area in their hands, pointing out where they lived and traveled. (Since I lived my first forty years there, I point to several locations on my map.) Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is renowned for its beauty. It also interests geologists. Sleeping Bear Dunes, Flickr / Rachel Kramer ( CC-BY-2.0 ) There is abundant evidence that glaciers did a great deal of carving and landscaping. Once they receded, the land gave a sigh of relief and began to change shape some more. The city of Petoskey is near the Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the state stone is also called Petoskey. It is actually made of fossilized corals moved by the glaciers. The dunes and the Ice Age are a result of the glo

Volcano on Pluto Perplexes Secular Scientists

Image
Something that keeps coming up is how science and technology provide ways of learning and trying to understand the universe, but also knowledge thwarts both deep time and evolution. Stars and planets do not act their age, so to speak; they give signs of being much younger than expected. Pluto has shown geologic activity , which was a big surprise. Other activity such as volcanoes  on the moon Io , one over on Mars , the volcano on Venus , and now one way out yonder on Pluto are bothersome. Volcanoes bring to mind liquid hot magma. Those farther away they blast other stuff. Pluto from New Horizons, NASA et al (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) Upon examining a crater called Kildaze (named after a Georgian scientist who put a great deal of work into studying Pluto), they realized that it sure does look like a supervolcano that blasts water. It's also a young volcano by their standards. Rescuing devices were utilized, but this activity is yet another testimony that
