Raccoons and Creation

Image
The other morning, I was not in the best of moods. Cleaning up around the shed was needed because a raccoon got in and scattered garbage. While I was mumbling to myself and working, Rusty Swingset, foreman of the Darwin Ranch near Deception Pass, and his lady friend Jacqueline Hyde (who was almost herself that day) had ridden up. He said they decided to see how these new horses were and since they had some down time, swung by my place. I gestured and said, "Trash panda's been here." Rusty roared and Jacqueline giggled. Raccoon, Unsplash / fr0ggy5 "I don't think either of us have heard that term before," said Jacqueline. "But they sure are mischievous." She pronounced it miss-CHEE-vee-us instead of MISS-chev-us, but I successfully hid my cringe. Rusty scratched his scraggly jaw and chimed in, "Say, don't you believe they're designed to do this stuff? Those paws look like five-fingered li'l hands." "Well, ya got me there,...

The Scopes Monkey Trial — 100 Years Later

Image
There was a trial in July 1925, formally "The State of Tennessee v. John Thomas Scopes." It is often informally known as the "Scopes Monkey Trial." Many people have seen the play or movie Inherit the Wind , which is treated like a documentary but is almost entirely fictional. Alleged  is more accurate . Since this is the 100-year anniversary of this significant event in American society and education, many articles and videos are being produced. I expect to post more than just the two for today. The entire trial was a setup by the American Civil Liberties Union . Scopes Trial day 7 as watercolor painting, original PD , modified at DeepAI Mr. Scopes was in trouble for breaking state law by teaching evolution. He was a substitute teacher and used a biology textbook that was approved by the state . He was arrested and put on trial in something that should have been very quick, but it turned into a circus: God  was in the dock. Although he was found guilty, the repercus...

The Camp Mystic Tragedy, God, and Darwinism

Image
Most Americans probably know of the July 4, 2025 flash flood tragedies in Texas. The one that is most prominent is Camp Mystic for Girls near Hunt, Texas. At this writing, twenty-seven campers and counselors are dead, and others are still missing. In this and other disasters, people wonder, "Where is God?" There is a word for attempts to reconcile the love of God (or even his existence) with evil in the world. It is theodicy , but academic discussions can seem glib or self-serving. Interestingly, the Camp Mystic tragedy is a challenge to atheists and other Darwinists. Camp Mystic, Flickr / crawford orthodontics ( CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 ) The camp is a nondenominational Christian. It was established in 1926 as Stewart's Camp for Girls. It was sold in 1937 to the Stacy family. Somewhere along the line, the name was changed to Camp Mystic because the morning mist on the Guadalupe River  gave the area a mystic feel, There had been several previous incidents of flooding over the ye...

Animals Communicating with Sounds

Image
Sure, we all know that many animals communicate with sounds. In the morning on a day off from work, listen to the mockingbird during an errand. It is amazing and entertaining, and there are guesses as to why, but it appears to be related to survival. As a child I asked what sound a certain animal makes, and I was told, "None." It has been discovered over the years that several kinds of creatures that were considered mute actually have some acoustic communications abilities. One study went further. Turtle singing before audience, made with DeepAI Using universal common descent evolutionary presuppositions, there was something I found surprising: It was concluded that acousting communication did not evolve multiple times in the groups they studied. Instead of convergent evolution, researchers pushed the problem back into the mists of imagined time. There was one ancestor, but nobody knows what it was. They have no evidence (fossil or otherwise) for evolution in the first place,...

Pangaea and Geology Failings

Image
In the beginning, secular version, there was nothing — which exploded. Cosmic expansion and that sort of thing happened. Eventually, hot swirling gasses coalesced and formed the sun and planets. This story is the nebular hypothesis , which is full of holes but they like it better than alternatives. Geologists in the secular science industry named their early time of Earth the Hadean Eon . That is based on the name of Hell (Luke 16:23, Rev. 20:13) and the Greek god of the underworld, Hades. Earth was supposedly cooling and the first crust was forming. Erupting volcano, Wikimedia Commons / National Park Service (PD) Continental plates — those slabs of rock underneath — bump into each other, push down, also causing earthquakes, volcanoes, and all that good stuff. This activity was supposed to give the chemical "fingerprint" seen in continents. Now secularists say the fingerprint was there all along — from creation, but they won't admit that part. Geological evolution fails ...

Solving the Polystrate Fossil Problem

Image
While the devastating difficulty of dinosaur soft tissues cannot be ignored or hidden, uniformitarian geologists have a lesser-known problem: polystrate fossils . Acolytes of the secular science industry like to point out that the phrase comes from creationists. Poison the well much, Marcia? Polystrate fossils are trees that have been fossilized in rock layers that are supposedly millions of years old. Secular geologists also claim that the trees grew in place. However, they do not show signs of partial decay while fossilizing during the requisite years. Also, these fossils are found in coal seams. Polystrate tree fossil in Joggins formation, Wikimedia Commons / Michael C. Rygel ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ) Some secularists have the audacity — the unmitigated gall — to claim that these things support their views, even saying that the trees have roots. No, Norman, a few pieces that look like the tree was ripped out from the ground before being buried does not qualify as root systems. Polystra...

Evolution Breaking Science Laws

Image
A common charge leveled against biblical creationists is that we deny science, but even a cursory examination of our material puts that lie to rest. (Someone said that we deny bad  science, which is true.) Notice that this accusation seems to only appears in discussions of origins. Such people act like atheists and believers in universal common descent are the ones who truly believe science, but the secular science industry uses deception and outright fraud to promote the current version of Darwin's Victorian myth. We need to keep the pressure on them . Crime scene tape and people, Unsplash / Joshua Coleman Evolutionists often defy laws of logic, such as insisting evidence only fits their  proposals, suppressing facts, redefining words, and more. Indeed, some seem to be trying to make their own "laws" without scientific due process . There are also major areas that evolution itself is used in attempts to circumvent established scientific laws. Those include the Law of Bio...

Religiously Atheistic in Naturalism

Image
Philosophy and science have been linked from way back when, but some folks think that science is something that stands alone. The secular science industry tends go whole hog into atheistic scientism, a religion in its own right . A philosophy in scientific investigation is methodological naturalism . There are people who assume that Christians and creationists will not do the work of science, citing the Creator and not digging into the research. Methodological naturalism is supposed to be a neutral ground, but such a thing does not exist. In fact, scientists are being railroaded into a naturalistic religion. Train waiting on tracks, Unsplash / Cowboy Bob Sorensen Secularists may object that atheism and naturalism are not religious because there is no deity involved. That excuse is disingenuous because users ignore the other definitions of religion; naturalism and atheism are a hand-in-glove worldview. (Indeed, atheism is assumed in academia, harming religious students ). Scientists who...

Sea Dragon Troubles Evolution

Image
Crappie Crankbait from the Darwin Ranch specializes in ancient aquatic reptiles, and he was giving a lecture in town. It was a follow up to  his ichthyosaur talk , this time about mosasaurs. Dr. Crankbait gave old talking points about the critters. Yes, these reptiles were big, about 50 feet or 15 meters long. Their order is Squamata because they are supposedly related to lizards that left land and returned to the sea. It has been assumed that mosasaurs were poor swimmers. When I publicly asked how anyone knows these things, Dr. Crankbait ignored me. Mosasaurus hoffmannii skeleton (cropped and adjusted), Wikimedia Commons / Ghedoghedo ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ) Down Mississippi way in the spring of 2025, researchers found a sizeable sea dragon. Some of Darwin's acolytes get on the prod when I point out that evolutionists have presuppositions. Then some insist that creationists are the ones who do that, not "scientists." (That is, no true scientist questions evolution.) But the r...

Rewilding, Dire Wolves, and Human Well-Being

Image
There is a concept called rewilding , which is considered a "progressive" approach to conservation. (When progressive  is used, be cautious of extremism.) The idea sounds reasonable and noble: Bring back creatures (or their relatives) that were extinct in some areas and let them roam free. Let nature live in peace, love, and grooviness. Extreme environmental views are wrapped in evolutionary thinking, so humans are just another thing that evolved. We are not exceptional (and certainly  not created separately and in the image of God, no siree). Turning wild critters loose can have dire consequences. Gray wolf, US National Park Service (Usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) According to standard reckoning, the dire wolf has been extinct for thousands of years. A company called Colossal Bioscience took some DNA and claims to have brought back the dire wolf from extinction. In reality, they did not have the materials or ability to do so, but the company made modifie...
