Gene Duplication does not Support Evolution

Image
In their efforts to thwart the work of creationists and Intelligent Design groups, many proponents of universal common ancestor evolution will ignore testing and empirical science, preferring instead to use the complex scientific principle of Making Things Up™. Other evolutionists use this hooey to confirm their biases. One of these is the concept of gene duplication  as a means of producing new genetic information. It supposedly effects evolution, but cannot be supported by actual science. Indeed, one would be hard pressed to find geneticists who believe such a thing. Gene duplication, Wikimedia Commons / National Institutes of Health (public domain, slightly modified) Genes get duplicated, so beneficial mutations can accumulate in one of them — that's the thinking. As with so many things used to support deep time, evolution, etc. asserted by the secular science industry, a passel of assumptions are made. But most mutations are by far neutral or deleterious. In addition, any ver

Whale Sharks — the Biggest Fish

Image
If asked what fish in the sea is the biggest, someone may be suggest the whale. If you want to tease, coax them to say the blue whale. Then tell them that they are half right because a whale is a mammal, but the largest fish is the whale shark. Unfortunately, sharks get bad press, especially after that Spielberg movie. Most are not interested in seeking humans for lunch, but someone says shark  and people panic. Nurse sharks are harmless. While the whale shark has teeth and denticles to spare, it eats much smaller things. Whale Shark, Flickr / Mike Johnston  ( CC BY 2.0 ) Speaking of teeth, whale sharks even have some on their eyes. Well, sorta. Those are denticles — "So if they look the same, are they eye denticle, Cowboy Bob?" Uh, sure. Moving on... Darwinists have floated explanations that just won't wash, but those on the eyes are very modified and used to for eye protection. Also, evolutionists did that thing they have done so often: If they don't understand an o

Freedom and Evolutionary Psychology

Image
What is arguably the best job security for a secular scientist is something that has the word evolutionary  in the title. Those things are self-serving, requiring assumptions of Darwinism, then working from there in efforts to prop up evolution and do research that has no practical value. It is interesting that atheists sometimes say that Christianity does not allow free will, but they use theirs to reject God. Then they argue from their materialistic presuppositions and preach evolution — which means that we are all just animals responding to our electro-chemical impulses. Wolf pack, Unsplash / Thomas Bonometti What atheists and other evolutionists don't understand is that ought  or should  that can not be justified in their worldview. If an atheist complains that a Christian is doing something wrong (or creationists "lying" about evolution by presenting material that refutes it), they are appealing to a higher moral standard . By doing so, they are tacitly admitting tha

Mount St Helens, Arthropods, and the Genesis Flood

Image
One way to feel small is to look up into the night sky at the vastness of the heavens, then be amazed that the Creator cares about us (Psalm 8:3-5). Something less profound but still interesting is how we are outnumbered by arthropods , comprising eighty-four percent of living creatures. Arthropods come in a huge variety such as crabs, lobsters, insects, and so on. The Master Engineer designed them to populate and repopulate ecosystems. One dramatic example of this is in the aftermath of the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption. Grasshopper, Unsplash / Clara Metivier Beukes Before climbing that mountain, there are some things that should be noted. It is entirely reasonable to expect claims of biblical creationists regarding the global Flood to be supported by physical evidence. This weblog has hundreds of such posts that link to creation science articles on that subject, so that's not a difficulty. Creationists make some big claims about the devastation of the Flood, and those are suppor

Lignite in Iceland and the Genesis Flood

Image
Ever hear of peat? That and peat moss grow in boggy places, and they contain decaying plant material. They are acidic and help improve soil. Kick it up a notch and we get lignite, which is called brown coal. It has noticeable plant material. Lignite has uses, but less energy output than true coals. Lignite was found in Iceland, and the plants of the lignite beds were preserved by lava layers on top of each other. Uniformitarian scientists are baffled as to how some plants reached Iceland in the first place. Lignite Brown Coal, WikiComm / Anton Lefterov  ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ) The usual belief is that plants were buried where they grew, but there is no evidence that several of the plants in the Icelandic lignite ever lived there. Some plants can reach remote islands through various means. A few of those in the lignite, however, are not good travelers. Secular scientists suggested ad hoc rescuing devices, but once again, the best explanation for what is observed is found in creation science G

Evolutionary Racism and the Buffalo Shootings

Image
Although he opposed slavery, Charles Darwin was a racist. His disciples become infuriated with us when we point out this fact and cry, "That is an ad hominem! " While it is indeed about the man, it is not fallacious. His racist views were instrumental to his version of evolution. Darwin considered black people and others to belong to less-evolved inferior races. Eventually, those "races" would be replaced by civilized man — white people. (This child wonders if the best white people were the Victorian English.) This exacerbated racism and formed "scientific racism." Tops Friendly Market, Flickr / Nicholas Eckhart  ( CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 ) The way mainstream media refer to white supremacists, neo-Nazis, etc., make it sound like there are quite a few of them. I have never met any. Yes, I've met racists but not the hardcore types, and turned down connection requests on social(ist) media for white supremacists. The Buffalo shooter on 14 May 2022 was racially mot

Deconstructing the Faith?

Image
There is a kind of pseudo-intellectual process called deconstruction , where people supposedly analyze their Christian faith and choose to modify it or apostatize. There are performers in the Christian music industry who have "deconverted", but this kind of thing is also done by people who are not celebrities. Several times in my own experience, I have heard of and even encountered people who claimed to be former Christians or ex-creationists. When they talk about what they left behind, they show an appalling lack of knowledge, indicating they never were Christians or creationists. Unsplash / Danny Howe It can be extremely helpful for people to question or deconstruct things they have been taught, which is something that I have done myself. There has to be a foundation, since everyone has a worldview . Deconstructing teachings based on assumptions and traditions, then seeing if they have validity according to the ultimate standard (for Christians, it should be the Bible) can

The Turtle Evolution Shell Game

Image
Recently, an angry atheopath demanded that I provide just one claim by evolutionists that is false. He also refused to read any of the posts, so why bother? At any rate, here is another that fits his demand. Darwinists seem to have a habit of saying that they have great evidence, but the evidence is poor. For example, animals claimed to be evolutionary ancestors for turtles either lived alongside them, or had no relationship to turtles at all. Then things get...downright weird. Turtle, Pexels  / Vlad CheÈ›an The great evidence for turtle evolution isn't. These critters are unique, and their shells are integral to their rib cages. There are numerous anatomical features needed. Scientists evosplain how they allegedly developed their shells a little at a time (which would make it more convenient to claim that some creature is an ancestor, despite the fossil record). The newest is claimed to be a "key missing link", but they are just dealing from the bottom of the deck because

Scientific Elitism and Critical Thinking

Image
When scientists write papers or give presentations to the public, obviously they should have superior knowledge on their areas of expertise. The problem is when scientists act like they are superior to other people beyond this. People have been told to trust and follow the science in many areas such as COVID-19, global warming, evolution, and others. Many experts who are considered outsiders raise questions and present contrary evidence to their claims, and the elitist attitudes of the previous are revealed. The performance masques have slipped quite a bit lately. This "1889 Guy" was colorized at Playback.fm , further modified with FotoSketcher This elitism is especially evident in the secular science industry. They "know" they are right, and have also been married up with leftist political agenda. Elitists are motivated to make others agree with them. Unlike biblical creationists, for example, who do not shield people from evolutionary views but encourage critical

Amazing Design of the Horned Lizard

Image
A popular character in old Warner Brothers cartoons was Yosemite Sam, who frequently wished bodily harm to Bugs Bunny. He would often exclaim, "Great horny toads!" The name horny toad is a misnomer for the horned lizard . The body shape kind of resembles a toad, though. They live in desert areas. There are other lizards that are faster and have other features, but the Creator equipped these to survive and thrive as well. Horned lizards have predators, but to chaw them risks internal damage. Horned Lizard, Wikimedia Commons / Room237  ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ) Living in the desert, they can get heat easily enough, but deserts get cold at night. Even burrowing into the sand isn't enough to prevent the cold from making a slow lizard slower. They have an interesting mechanism for warming up before fully emerging. Another feature that shows their design is how to eat without being eaten themselves; horned lizards also eat insects — lots of them. Then there's that unique internal wa

Dinosaur Size Matters

Image
When someone says dinosaur , what is the first image that pops into your mind? Most likely, the toothsome  Tyrannosaurus rex , a lumbering sauropod like a Diplodocus , the Velociraptor  as portrayed in the Jurassic Park  movies. The big guys get the best press. Dinosaurs came in a range of sizes. In fact, the Velociraptor  was about the size of a turkey. Some of the reconstructions are from woefully incomplete skeletons. Some of those views were later revised, and should make paleontologists repent of their hasty assertions. Spinophorosaurus,  Wikimedia Commons /  Nobumichi Tamura  ( CC BY 3.0 ) Using good remains, there are a few candidates for the longest and for the most massive. With the bigly-huge connotations, people tend to disbelieve that dinosaurs could have fit onto Noah's Ark. Yes, they were the largest created land creatures, but there were those small ones as well. Noah would have brought juveniles. If scoffers would allow biblical creationists to present our view from

Altruistic Birds Defy Evolution

Image
Stop, children, what is that sound from Deception Pass? We hear it all the way down to Stinking Lake (which is not as bad as it sounds). Well, foreman Rusty Swingset at the Darwin Ranch formed a band and called it Morphospace Expansion. They were singing about survival of the fittest. We have discussed spurious recent papers designed to make Darwin smile (such as " The Kobayashi Maru of Lizard Evolution " and the bad report on corvid evolution ), but we also look at inconsistencies in  evolutionary concepts. For example, birds can show altruism. Maggie the Australian Magpie in the rain, Flickr / I Am birdsaspoetry  ( CC BY 2.0 ) I have mentioned that we like the cacophony of corvids (especially blue jays) in these parts, and I have come to appreciate crows as well. The Corvidae family has some of the smartest birds. These and others exhibit altruism (although blue jays can also be jerks like other birds), and evolutionists have trouble explaining altruism and kindness in hum

The Kobayashi Maru of Lizard Evolution

Image
In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn , a training exercise called the  Kobayashi Maru was presented. It was named after a spaceship, and the exercise was a no-win situation. The only time it was beaten is when cadet James Tiberius Kirk reprogrammed the simulation. He was commended for original thinking. Some may view that as cheating, but computer simulations are incomplete. However, when it comes to the evolution of lizards, which is one of many evolutionist  Kobayashi Maru scenarios, cheating is blatant. It is also applauded because the end result makes Darwin smile. Lizard, RGBStock / Michal Zacharzewski Once again, the "earlier than thought" expression is utilized. In this case, it was about the alleged evolution of lizards, snakes, and so on. The researchers claimed that these critters evolved in the Jurassic, and that was a time of evolutionary "innovation." Now this  is beyond just using a metaphor, and it is clearly reification; evolution is not an entity tha

Creation and the Laws of Thermodynamics

Image
For some reason, Stormie Waters was not so active in prospecting. I found out why when she stopped over and brought her new boyfriend, Roland Meadows. He seems a decent sort, and while we were jawing, he suddenly asked me laws of thermodynamics. Not exactly your typical mid-afternoon conversation topic, but I tried to oblige him. He knew that scientific things work their way up from hypotheses, then theories, and if they cannot be disproved yet, they become laws. The laws of thermodynamics are very important, and support recent creation. Universe image:  NASA / ESA / M. Montes (Univ. New South Wales); gavel overlay: Clker clipart (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents by anyone) Biblical creationists know that Jesus, God the Son, is the Creator and he also upholds the universe. One way this can be seen is the uniformity of nature , where things will operate tomorrow the same way the are today. Materialists cannot account for this, nor can they account for the laws of logi

Medical Propaganda in Evolutionary Indoctrination

Image
Proponents of universal common descent are rejoicing that more people are accepting evolution, partly through having  escalated their indoctrination efforts toward children . They actively censor Intelligent Design and creation science material with the excuse that they are "religious". That is disingenuous since evolution is foundational to atheism and the religion of secular humanism: They are promoting religion in public schools . Why is it so important to secularists to present only a naturalistic view and derail the learning process? Mostly made at PhotoFunia A frequent piece of rhetoric by secularists is that evolution is essential for medicine. That is the opposite of the truth. As regular readers have seen, evolutionary thinking is harmful  to medical science . Professionals and educators find it to have no practical value and just don't want it . But that doesn't stop some tinhorns from capitalizing on the coronavirus panics , and ramping up their censorship

Catastrophic Year at Karoo

Image
If you head down South Africa way, there is a place called the Great Karoo. It is in the southwestern province of the Western Cape, but the Karoo is rather arid because of low annual rainfall. This is where a geological formation called the Karoo Supergroup  is found. In this area, dinosaur tracks were found on a sandstone bed on a farm. Geologists have found many tracks in various places around the world, and they often need to be examined quickly after they have become exposed before they are eroded away. Karoo Landscape, cropped from Flickr / Bernard DUPONT  (follow the link for the full image) ( CC BY-SA 2.0 ) The Karoo Supergroup is huge, just like many others that extend across continents and even to other continents. (It would be annoying to say that some are in-continent, so I won't .) Secular geologists have notions about the layers of rocks forming by lava and sedimentary deposits over millions of years, but these do not make sense. One reason is that the critters could n

Evolutionists Tickled about Pterosaur Feather Claims

Image
Like dinosaurs, pterosaurs came in many sizes and shapes. Tupandactylus imperator was an odd-looking creature, different from the more common pterosaur portrayal. Evolutionary scientists thought they found themselves evidence of feathers. Perhaps it is because many secularists want evidence that birds evolved into dinosaurs — not that it would matter much, because dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and birds   were contemporaries . Also, even if the assertions in the obedient lapdog media of the secular science industry were true, feathers on pterosaurs are no threat to creation science. Tupandactylus imperator (background added), Nobumichi Tamura / Wikimedia Commons ( CC BY-SA 4.0 ) What was actually seen is not justified by interpretations by the scientists, and similar nonsense has been floated before . They excluded explanations that do not make Darwin smile, preferring evoporn to actual scientific research and thorough examination. People who have learned critical thinking should know that

Creationists Presenting Wrong Information about Natural Selection

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  As stated many times before, Christians and creationists are called to a higher standard using evidence, logic, and apologetics than unbelievers. Further, we must show godly integrity in everything we do. One of the main principles in a debate, formal or informal is to honestly and accurately represent the opposing view . Otherwise, people make disingenuous straw man arguments. (Evolutionists frequently do this to creationist views.) Unfortunately, some influential creationists are making false statements about natural selection . Although I am not influential, I have been doing this to some extent as well. Lightbulb with world, Pixabay / PIRO4D Atheists try to slap leather with us, and are frustrated when a knowledgeable creationist returns fire with truth and reason. The abusive  ad hominem  "liar for Jesus" is falsely asserted when we know something of which they are ignorant, or simply do not like. However, we must not give them any basis to make

Abortion and Rebellion against the Created Order

Image
The ideal status of the family unit was established by God in the beginning, which was one man and one woman. This was attacked shortly thereafter, and has been ever since. In fact, it is increasing. The Christian worldview sees other humans as created in the image of God. It was shocking to pagan nations, but gradually began to take hold in cultures and governments. It was the Christian influences and advocacy that led to the abolition of slavery, and the elevation of women and children, because all are bearers of God's image. Empty bassinet, Freestocks /  Joanna Malinowska People who hate God (whether they admit it or not) have rebelled against his created order for the family unit. Secularists use political ideologies that are ultimately Marxist in outlook, pretending that they are doing what is best for people. They promote false alternatives for the family, and claim that abortion is a "woman's right" and "healthcare" and will keep the bassinet empty. I

Darwinists Flighty about Insect Wings

Image
Stevia Dolce, the new baker at the Darwin Ranch, seemed angry with me after our discussion on trilobites. Surprise! She stopped by my spread with a blueberry pie. It was early, so I put on coffee and scrambled us some hen fruit for breakfast. Then we had a nice discussion. Never judge intelligence by occupation, as Stevia the baker is a smart cookie. She was amazed at the irrational arguments that Joe Nexnelsrent used about DNA, and went on to tell me that he discussed an article on the evolution of insect wings. She said it was...truly bizarre. But very interesting. Dragonfly, Pixabay / Roy Buri Evolutionists have an a priori  assumption that everything evolved, beginning with the Big Bang. Notice they do not question if  something evolved in the first place, but only how  it evolved. It must have, since things only appear designed. Because atheistic naturalism. As we have seen numerous times, their reasoning skills are often horribly lacking. The idea of neo-Darwinism requires numero
