Anything but God in Secular Universe Origins Ideas

You may be surprised to learn that the Big Bang model for the origin of the universe began way back in the 1920s and has been modified numerous times since then. However, the Big Bang simply does not work, so older ideas are being retooled, and new ones are being considered and slipped through the secular torpedo nets.

The Big Bang is in constant trouble, and secular scientists are trying to find rescuing devices, including alternatives. But they refuse to admit the truth of the Creator.

Astronomer Fred Hoyle came up with the title Big Bang out of derision. He and other scientists did not like the idea of the universe having a beginning, and preferred the even less scientific but predominant steady state concept. Since the Big Bang has been Frankensteined with parts added on through the years in futile attempts to keep it alive, some scientists are dreaming up other ideas to cling to their cosmic evolution ideas. They will not admit that the facts support  what the Bible said all along: God created. There is definitely no valid reason for professing Christians to use this philosophy as an add-on.
A recent New Scientist (hereafter abbreviated NS) article entitled “What if there was no big bang and we live in an ever-cycling universe?” has generated great discussion. At first blush, one might look at the title and think that a few maverick astronomers and astrophysicists are looking to popularize some new theory. Or you may assume that it is a set-up article to tear down a straw-man and bolster the Big Bang. But in reality, the hypotheses mentioned in the article are all just recycled arguments against the current Big Bang model, which has more and more problems as new astronomical data comes in. This article, highlighting some serious problems with big bang cosmology, reads more like a desperate attempt to find anything (besides the biblical explanation of cosmic origins) to explain how our universe came to be and how the current observations can fit into a “bangless” cosmology. The primary hypothesis mentioned in the NS article is the Big Bounce, or oscillating universe, although other cosmologies are discussed at the end of the article. I have previously addressed much of this in my book Universe by Design and will use some of that material here as I address all of these in turn.

Tunnel Valleys and the Ice Age

A few weeks back, I met up with Rusty Swingset and his lady friend Jacqueline Hyde (who was not quite herself) before they headed back up to the Darwin Ranch near Deception Pass. They were discussing tunnel valleys, something I had never heard of before. Turns out some are a few days' ride (a few hours by car) from me.

Tunnel valleys like Finger Lakes are puzzling to geologists in many ways. They were formed by melted water moving rapidly under glacier sheets.
Finger Lakes image credit: NASA
Just south of Lake Ontario in the state of New York is a region called the Finger Lakes. You can see why (besides, "Clawmark Lakes" could seem a mite scary), since there are about eleven of them going pretty much north and south, and quite narrow. How did they get there?

Tunnel valleys like this are in many places when Earth wore an ice hat. More specifically, areas that were glaciated. Rapid meltwater during the Ice Age carved them out, but the timing details are sketchy. Some uniformitarian geologists think these happened over several ice ages, but they cannot provide evidence. More likely, the flows were catastrophic and at one time more recently than secular geologists believe.
Tunnel valleys are found over numerous glaciated areas, such as the outer continental shelf off Nova Scotia; southern Ontario, Canada; northern Alberta, Canada; east-central Minnesota and Wisconsin, USA; north-west Europe; and the central Barents Sea. . . .

Tunnel valleys have also been discovered offshore. Some of the largest and best documented occur in the North Sea, and are thought to have formed over multiple glaciations, and then infilled by sediment from European rivers.

After a tunnel valley is first cut, it is usually (but not always) filled in. The Finger Lakes of New York are examples of tunnel valleys that were partially filled in with sediments. The sediment fill is varied, and includes glacial till, glaciofluvial sands and gravels, sediment gravity flow deposits, and glaciolacustrine silts and clays.

Epigentics, Creation Science, and — Lamarck?

Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck may be coming back from the sepulcher of evolutionary philosophies. The secular science establishment decided to ride for the Darwin gang and Lamarck was essentially told, "Go away, boy, you bother me", but some of his contributions are acknowledged.

Lamarck was kicked aside by the Darwin gang, but he may have had some correct ideas. This ties into a creation science model involving epigenetics.
Lamarck portrait by Charles Thévenin 1802
Although Lamarck is touted as the purveyor of inherited characteristics from his 1809 publication on evolution, he is somewhat misrepresented. The typical dismissal often includes the idea that giraffes developed longer necks to reach leaves in trees. While he was more wrong than Papa Darwin on evolution, he may have had a notion that was ahead of its time.

Scientists are realizing that the nuclear genome is not the be-all and end-all of inheritance. Studies in epigenetics are showing that this area plays a large part in the inheritance of characteristics, and some behaviors are actually learned for a few generations. Some scientists are looking back on Lamarck and thinking maybe they shouldn't have relegated him to mucking the stalls of the Darwinian elite.

Some Harvard research is discussing Lamarck and some concepts that fit with the creation science model of continuous environmental tracking and engineered adaptability (several posts on this have appeared here). Mayhaps evolutionists will catch on that, instead of Darwin's insistence on external influences and "pressures", the evidence shows that our Creator designed organisms to change and adapt.
Two recent reports undermine natural selection, but support design. The reports reinforce the reality that creatures are active, problem-solving beings that sense environmental changes and produce targeted adaptive responses. Another new insight is that an organism’s offspring could produce the same targeted response. However, the adaptive traits aren’t due to changes in DNA per se. Rather, the expression of the genes are modified during development.

A Nice Day to Consider Saturn

Sometimes we may wonder why the names of planets were chosen after some very unsavory characters. Kronos was a Greek titan, son of sky and earth (Uranus and Gaia). In a violent coup with the help of Gaia, he overthrew Uranus which caused giants, fairies, and nymphs to form. He later ate his own children, but was forced to cough them up years later — none the worse for wear.

News from Saturn as well as the rings and moons keep accumulating. It is not good for long age believers, as evidence reveals recent creation.

His rule was not much help against the Romans, who conquered and also merged Kronos with Saturn. Except for varying accounts of mythology, a nifty evolution-defying planet and its helpful moons, and the name of a day of the week, this sidewinder is pretty much forgotten. Misotheists say that the Bible reads like "fairy tales" or "mythology", but I lack belief that they are intellectually honest when making such foolish comparisons.

No need to put on a saturnine countenance as we will now leave the fantastical stories behind us and look at some aspects of Saturn. This bad boy puts burrs under the saddles of cosmic evolutionists and deep time proponents, but it is mighty helpful to us creation-minded folks.

The Cassini mission provided us a heap of data that is still being sorted out and make rescuing device factories overheat. At this writing, Saturn has 82 "moons" that have been counted, although there are several that can be loosely considered moons, and others that have essentially only left their tracks. Some of those moons are active in the ring system.

Secular scientists cannot agree on the age of the rings. Some say that they somehow arrived after Saturn was formed, others say that the rings were there pretty much from the start. Models for the design of the moons fail because they presuppose billions of years, and the evidence shows that the rings are young. Then they need to figure out the electrodynamic activity between Saturn and the rings — which sounds fascinating to this child.

This is leading up to the first of two links. To learn about the rings and more, click on "News for Saturn-Day". I hope you come back for the second part.

We learned a great deal about the rings of Saturn and the planet itself, now we can examine two of its most interesting moons, Enceladus and Titan.

The pseudoscience of astrobiology is being invoked to give materialists hope for new places that life could possibly evolve. Enceladus is the "perfect age" for life to evolve, and this was demonstrated through computer simulations and circular reasoning. Unnamed organic chemicals were found, but that is a loose term that can include poisons. Getting actual science from these folks? That'll be the day!

Have you ever been standing near an entrance on a snowy day and someone comes in and shakes snow all over, including onto you? Enceladus is being rude to other moons, firing off ice crystals and giving them a covering. This activity also indicates that the moon is young because that cannot go on for millions or billions of years.

Titan has an atmosphere that is loaded with nitrogen. It also has lakes with steep craters where nitrogen may have been blasting outward. This indicates pressure, which again cannot last for the long ages that secularists require.

It would be mighty helpful to for science if these people would cowboy up and realize that they are using the cosmic evolution narrative to control the evidence. In reality, we keep on getting evidence showing that the solar system was created recently — even using secular methods.

The Surprising Human Voice

Many birds and animals communicate audibly, and even some fishes and whales make themselves heard to each other. Mates, offspring, and certain others recognize each others' sounds. The human voice, however, has many features to set us apart from critters.

The human voice is unique from voices and sounds of animals and such. We are designed to do things that they are not built to do.

There are certain types of speakers that I like to hear, probably because of pitch and timbre. You have probably had the same experience where it is pleasant to hear someone talking. We can also tell people apart when they speak or sing (I'll allow that some are difficult until you listen for a spell). We have more range and versatility than the creatures God made — they're not built that way.

Language is something that sets us apart (see "Language Itself Testifies of the Creator"). Pronunciations in some languages require a great deal of work (such as when someone who speaks English tries to learn Russian, for example). No animals write songs in a language, put them to music, and sing them. Our Creator left that pleasure for us, and we also sing to his glory.
The way the Human voice works is a marvel of acoustic engineering. Each person’s voice reflects the way first that the original sound is produced at the vocal chords, then in the way the sound waves are channelled through the throat, and finally in the way the sound is released from the mouth where many harmonics are added. High-frequency consonants like “f,” “b,” “s,” and “t” are all formed by the lips and tongue operating in a collaboration, which acoustically is very rich indeed. This means that it is very difficult for apes and monkeys to emulate and speak in a human-like voice—they do not have the apparatus to do it!

The Energy-Efficient Albatross

Have you ever seen a Gooney Bird riding the wind? If so, you would probably have to have been in windy latitudes. It got that nickname because of its take-off and landing clumsiness, and mayhaps because of amusing courtship dances. It is more formally known as the albatross.

The albatross is the gooney bird in courtship, take-offs and landings, but they are masters of riding the winds.

Some look like an overgrown seagull in some ways, but with much longer wingspans. They can stay at sea for a mighty long time, too. But they rely on wind currents (something that researchers want to imitate for unmanned aerial vehicles), so they spend some time in the water when the wind dies down and pick up again with the winds.

Creationists have studied the kinds of these birds that went on the Ark, as there are many species of albatrosses. There are other related birds as well.
Graceful. In control. Effortless. That’s how the wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) has appeared to generations of sailors on the far-flung seas, who marvelled at its ability to stay aloft without flapping its wings.

The albatross is known to travel up to 16,000 km (10,000 miles) in a single journey, and circumnavigate the globe in 46 days. Flying no higher than about 20 metres (65 ft) above the sea surface, the albatross searches the vast expanses of the ocean for squid and fish to eat, and can spend months, even years, at sea.

Genomic Data Wreck Evolution

In the thrilling days of yesteryear when Darwin roamed the earth, people believed in evolution through natural selection. As science developed, folks realized that Darwin was wrong. The science of genetics that was initiated by Gregor Mendel (peas be upon him) was hijacked and merged with natural selection. The science is still against it, but secularists believe it anyway — they don't take a fancy to admitting that there's a Creator.

Some evolutionists are realizing that their view of genetics has no foundation. Creationists have been telling them this all along.

Apparatchiks for the Darwin Party roam teh interweb to pummel people who think for themselves and reject evolutionism, but they do not seem to understand what evolution entails. They certainly haven't kept up on the aspects of science that refute it, such as biology, cosmology, paleontology , and more. Especially genetics.

Creationists have been presenting the truth all along. But evolutionists and atheists will believe despite contrary evidence (even from secularists) and despite lack of supporting evidence. Because evolution.
A new review article by Vivian Callier in Quanta Magazine reveals that evolution does not have a weak foundation: It has no foundation. The subtitle summarizes the dilemma evolutionists are in: “For 50 years, evolutionary theory has emphasized the importance of neutral mutations over adaptive ones in DNA. Real genomic data challenge that assumption.”
