The Foolishness of Cosmic Darwinism

Some folks get all het up when creationists talk about the Big Bang, telling us that it has nothing to do with evolution. Two distinct possibilities are that they are uninformed or simply dishonest. Cosmic evolution is the secular origin of the universe myth. You savvy that, pilgrim?

There was nothing, which exploded. Eventually there were stars and galaxies, elements formed, our solar system, geologic evolution, and then gas-to-geneticist evolution. Biblical creationists and Intelligent Design proponents point to the fine-tuning of the universe as evidence of a Creator.

Secularists tacitly affirm Romans 1:18-24, which says that people know evidence for God which is clear in his creation, but they suppress that truth. It is obvious that Earth was designed for life in many ways such as having a well-behaved sun, our placement in the galaxy, Earth's orbit itself, ATP synthase, and much more. Some folks take their denial of the truth to extremes, including how fine tuning is explained away by incorporating Charlie Darwin's ideas into cosmic evolution. It does not go well.

In a recent article at IAI News, technological physicist Jeff Shainline proposes a preposterous new theory that attempts to “resolve” anthropic fine-tuning by rolling it together with cosmological Darwinism and a twist of The Privileged Planet gone universal. Shainline piggybacks his extended theory on an earlier stretch-of-the-imagination proposal by cosmologist Lee Smolin,
