Standard Science and Evolutionary Myths

Over fifty years ago, the Institute for Creation Research was established primarily through the efforts of Dr. Henry M. Morris. Dr. Duane T. Gish joined him a bit later, the others. It reorganized in recent years under new leadership. Their free Acts & Facts magazine has been published since 1972.

A recent edition discussed eleven myths of standard (conventional) science beliefs, and I will present several or all when I feature ICR material here. Folks may bristle at the idea that there are myths in science, especially evolution, but they do exist.

Folks bristle at the idea that there are myths in evolution. Charles Darwin influenced the science of his day with his views. Now myths dominate.
Charles Darwin the thug
It may come as a shock to some people, but science is actually a philosophy. Several, actually. Scientists based their interpretations of facts based on their worldviews. Most believe that the universe is very old. There are evolutionary views of the cosmos, geology, biology, and so on. Indeed, Charles Darwin did not create evolution. Another shock for some people is that evolution is actually an ancient philosophy, even a religious belief, found among Epicurean beliefs in ancient Greece, and even in Hinduism.

Despite the claims of many, Darwin was not a "great scientist," as he never had formal scientific training. Charlie did not start with a blank slate, make observations, and come up with evolution. Yes, he did develop and popularize the concept, but he used his own presuppositions. Darwin wanted to replace God the Creator with nature. The scientific community was not thrilled with his ideas at first, but he cajoled his way into their good graces. Although evolutionary ideas have been modified over the years, Darwin would be thrilled with the dominance of evolutionary ideas in the secular science industry.
One of the most influential ideas over the history of the world is that billions of years of nothing created everything! Remarkably, this idea continues to dominate society, and in particular the academic mindset within conventional science. Yet we should remain steadfast in our knowledge that such conjecture is only a myth: “an unfounded or false notion.”
