The Folly of a Tranquil Genesis Flood

Image
There are professing Christians that cannot accept the book of Genesis as written, so they insert huge amounts of time between the first two verses of Genesis , say that the creation account was a "framework" , and more. Why these jaspers feel the need to add atheistic interpretations of geology to the Word of God is baffling. It seems that some people grab onto practically anything, no matter how silly, if it makes them feel better. How about a Flood that did not disturb anything? No torrential waters, no flood deposition (which biblical creationists have abundantly documented), but it was tranquil . Leaf floating in water, Pexels / Mathias Reding The theological aspects of a tranquil Flood are easily dispensed by looking at both the Old and New Testaments. Let's consider the physical. Granted, there was not a passel of physics and hydrology back when the idea was proposed like we have today. Even so, it should have been laughed away. Such an amount of water leaving no m

One Flood, Many Rock Layers

Image
This child lives an hour north of New York City, at the foothills of the Catskills. Even here, we have road cuts where you can see the rock layers. Take a look around, you can see layers all around the world, whether from construction work or natural formations. It is a fair question to ask how the Genesis Flood could form so many layers, especially when we are bombarded with uniformitarian (deep time) views from the secular science industry. Credit: Unsplash / Gordon Williams From the perspective of biblical creationists, the Genesis Flood was exceptionally turbulent and had a heap of activity. Water did not just stand in place and maybe slosh around a bit. The global flood formed layers, and creationists draw from Genesis, geology, and logic. How did the layers get there? Most people believe that many layers require many years. They imagine ancient worlds that gave each layer unique colors, grain types, and fossils. In truth, you don’t need much time to make rock layers if

"Don't Miss the Boat" by Paul Taylor — Book Review

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen In the debate between Ken Ham and Bill Nye the Evolutionary Dogma Guy, Nye decided it would be a good idea to ridicule Noah's ark and the Genesis Flood. In his prepackaged-sounding objections to creation science and the Flood, he engaged in numerous logical fallacies. One was asserting uninformed opinions that would have a negative influence on listeners (prejudicial conjecture). One of these was that some shipbuilders designed a ship that sank, therefore, Noah's ark could not have worked. Like so many others of his nature, he did not do his homework, embarrassing himself and other evolution propagandists. Both Bill Nye and Ken Ham managed to get people thinking and asking questions. Don't Miss the Boat — Facts to Keep Your Faith Afloat by Paul Taylor answers some questions and will prompt further investigation. The Genesis Flood is a biblical event, and Paul gives us a clear biblical viewpoint as well as the science of the Flood, draw

Garden of the Gods and the Genesis Flood

Image
If you ever find yourself out Colorado way and have a notion to take in some nature, then the city of Colorado Springs may be of interest. A place called Garden of the Gods is actually in the city limits. It is not a national park, and is free of charge. (Of course, the recreation area has some fees.) Look off yonder, you can see Pikes Peak! The signs and such will gladly tell you a passel of geology, but unfortunately it tells secular deep-time stories that get things wrong. Cathedral Spires at Garden of the Gods, Library of Congress / William Henry Jackson , 1905 If someone wanted to learn Genesis Flood geology, this would be a great place to start. There are some amazing layouts from all that sandstone. Something to note is a detail of which uniformitarianism cheerleaders on teh interwebs seem to be willingly ignorant: the Great Unconformity . Hundreds of millions of years (according to secular stories) are missing, and it is also seen in the Grand Canyon — and spans continents. Th

Michigan Pictured Rocks and Flood Geology

Image
People who are looking for outdoor recreation should seriously consider the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, as there are many activities available. Spending time outdoors is good for people . Go straight up through the mitten, across the Mackinac Bridge, further north to Paradise. Then find the Tahquamenon Falls State Park . East from there is Munising and  Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore . For even more intense nature, head further east to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park . (Plan your trip, unlike Clark Griswold going to Walley World.) You'll thank me later. Creation geologists should spend much more time researching up there. Flickr / calamity_sal  ( CC BY 2.0 ) Actually, we do have an article about one of the stops suggested above, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. (Suzie doesn't sell seashells there, but Lucy loves lichens by the lakeshore.) There is a lot of talk about state and national parks, but a national lakeshore ? Sure. The US National Park Service take

Continental Margins and the Genesis Flood

Image
Uninformed and willingly ignorant anti-creationists often claim that there is no evidence for the Genesis Flood, then seek rescuing devices that they believe confirm their biases. Creationists have done a passel of research and pointed out flaws in uniformitarian beliefs. One of these is the formation of continental margins. Credit: NASA / Goddard Space Flight Center Scientific Visualization Studio et al . Usage does not imply endorsement of site contents. Click for larger. For the most part, continental margins are the continental shelf and slope. Proponents of long-age geology are unable to formulate a plausible model for the huge amounts of sediment on the continental margins; the could not have been formed by oceanic activity seen today. Indeed, using a computer visualization that "drains the oceans", one of the first things you see is this conspicuous boundary. Biblical creation science Flood models give a plausible explanation. During the last half of Noah’s Fl

Dinosaur Eggs and Challenges to the Genesis Flood

Image
There are millions of fossilized dinosaur eggs around the world, but they may not stand out to someone who is not trained to notice them. After all, they are fossilized. These eggs are more concentrated in some areas than others, and secularists fixing to lynch biblical creationists present some challenges. Fossilized dinosaur eggs at Indroda Fossil Park Image credit: Wikimedia Commons /  S. Ballal  ( CC by-SA 3.0 ) Secularists have raised some challenges for Genesis Flood geology that are interesting at first glance. However, observed evidence regarding dinosaur eggs is also difficult for those geologists to answer as well. Creation scientists have the Briefly Exposed Diluvial Sediments model that provides satisfactory answers to objections of secular geologists. Other features, such as mud cracks, raindrop imprints, bird tracks, channels, and burrows, have been reported at some egg sites. In addition, some dinosaur remains seem to have been scavenged. Skeptics argue that thes

Yellowstone National Park Flood Catastrophe

Image
Regular readers may have noticed that articles from the Institute for Creation Research about national parks have been featured here. This time, we will look at two of them about various features of Yellowstone National Park. Its 2.2 million acres became protected as the first national park in 1872. People may not know that they are t aking selfies with bison while strolling around  on top of a supervolcano , and magma is three miles below the surface. This is why there are so many geysers and hot springs, including Old Faithful — which erupts a bit more frequently nowadays. Yellowstone caldera, Flickr /  AleGranholm  ( CC BY 2.0 ) Secular geologists throw around millions of years like politicians throw around tax money, but it's because the naturalistic narrative requires it, not evidence. The thermal stuff is is best explained by creation science Genesis Flood geology. The park is unique for its travertine flows, mud pots, hot springs, and canyons. It houses over 10,000 thermal

Evidence for the Genesis Flood in Australia

Image
G'day. While we have a passel of rock formations in these here United States where I live, there are many around the world that give strong evidence of the Genesis Flood. (We do seem to have the best dinosaur boneyards, though.) There's an area in the Northern Territory called Red Centre,  which has an abundance of, well, redness. The frontier town of Alice Springs can set you up if you want to do some sightseeing and as a starting point for exploring Flood geology. I'd like to go myself, you betcha. " Kings Canyon " image credit: Pixabay / walesjacqueline But this isn't advertising for 'Straya tourism. Like I said at the onset, there are many geological formation that support the Genesis Flood. Sure, uniformitarian geologists continue their old Earth assertions (evolution requires an old Earth), but much of what they say defies science and basic reasoning skills, and basically falls apart. Here is an article written from a biblical creationist poi

Scientists Doing Science Stuff: K-T Boundary Part 3

Image
This geology article is technical in nature. In two previous articles 1 , 2 Michael Oard discussed the possible boundary for the Noachian Flood.  morguefile photo/dhester Here, he spells out his disagreement with other creationist geologists ("I documented that among creationists there are several major Flood models with variable ideas. For the time being and in face of many geological and geophysical unknowns, such a situation is healthy, according to the principle of multiple working hypotheses"). Two evidences commonly presented for the Cretaceous/Tertiary (K/T) boundary being the location of the Flood/post-Flood boundary are: (1) Tertiary volcanism in the northwest United States, and (2) the cooling of ocean basalt while the continents rise. However, a close analysis of these suggests that they raise more questions than they answer and ignore contrary evidence, which supports the idea that the end of the Flood corresponds to the Late Cenozoic. Secular Science Confirming the Genesis Flood?

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  Scoffers of the Genesis Flood often ask where all the water went, and biblical creationists point out that Earth is 70 percent covered by water. Also, if the earth were completely smooth, it would be completely covered by water. But there's more. Credit: NASA / ISS 42 / Terry Virts (Usage does not imply endorsement of site contents by anyone) Something secularists detest (as do many old-earth creationists and theistic evolutionists) is that Genesis indicates the Earth was created out of water. Dr. D. Russell Humpreys based his accurate predictions of planetary fields on this. I reckon that if science contradicted creationism, we would light a shuck out of there. When materialistic assumptions and circular reasoning are stripped away, science supports creation; we have an especially good time with geology. I was spurred to write this here article because of one from 2018, " Science confirms Genesis Flood account, again ". While it is not a science

Catastrophes Defy Uniformitarianism

Image
Uniformitarian geology avoids evidence of catastrophic events in the earth's past, especially the Genesis Flood. Even so, they are forced to face some evidence for catastrophe. Backslidden theology student Charles Darwin was heavily influenced by lawyer Charles Lyell's uniformitarian geology principles (i.e., the present is the key to the past). Since secularists and liberal Christians believe atheistic interpretations of evidence in favor of evolution, they do the same for "deep time" speculations, since Darwinism requires long ages. When evidence refuting uniformitarianism and supporting catastrophism crops up, they commence to playing "I got an excuse to keep on believing evolutionary dogma". Jamestown, CO, Sep. 15, 2013 / Steve Zumwalt / FEMA They hugely underestimate the power of catastrophes, especially from water. A lot of water in a little bit of time can have a tremendous impact, and can affect "millions of years" of change. Of co

Secular Geologists Mystified by Sheet Sands

Image
In studies of origins, a great deal of attention is given to the historical sciences of geology and paleontology. Most of the fossils are in six megasequences , which present  strong evidence for the Genesis Flood . Other aspects of geology are of interest, especially since secular geologists are unable to furnish plausible uniformitarian models and explanations for what is observed. Detail of the wind and water-weathered sandstone that forms the Beehive Formation in the Valley of Fire Nevada State Park Credit: Alex Demas / US Geological Survey (Usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) One of the many aspects of geology that mystifies secularists is sheet sands.  It may be possible to occasionally write off something unusual, but not these things. They extend over vast areas, and defy uniformitarian explanations. (They cling to their deep time notions, and refuse to acknowledge scientific evidence that the earth is actually much younger than in their philosophies.)

Folded Rocks and the Genesis Flood

Image
When discussing geological features, secular scientists tend to get bent out of shape when the Genesis Flood is mentioned — especially since the Flood is the best explanation for bent and folded rocks. Biblical history, including the Flood, was accepted by most people for many years. James Hutton petulantly stamped his foot and declared that geology must  be explained by naturalistic gradual means, so leave God and miraculous processes out of it. He spread his ideas in the 1780s, and people began to accept the philosophical view of deep time. Uniformitarianism is the dominant position today. Folding rock, Flickr / John Fowler  ( CC BY 2.0 ) Pick up a piece of sedimentary rock. Mayhaps you have a piece of shale handy. Fold it and mail it to me. No, you can't because it breaks (if you're strong enough in the first place). Secular geologists insist that those layers of folded rocks are the result of slow 'n' gradual effects over millions of years. However, there is no obse

Dinosaur Tracks, Bright Angel Trail, and the Genesis Flood

Image
If you take a notion to visit the Grand Canyon, you can also see smaller canyons and several trails. One of these is the Bright Angel Trail, which was set up by the Havasupai folks. After they were told to get lost, Ralph Cameron improved on it and gave it its current name. Wonder what he would have thought about those tracks. Credit: Wikimedia Commons /  Jarek TuszyÅ„ski  ( CC BY-SA 4.0 ) Just up yonder above the trackways, separated by fifty million Darwin years, is the Coconino Sandstone. Deep time believers cling to the uniformitarian narrative despite the startling hugely bigness of the flaws of wind-driven narrative. These include lizard tracks , mica in the sand , and more. In fact, biblical creationists have been pointing out this bad science for decades . But naturalists are like political leftists receiving fraudulent votes: if something appears to bolster something in their favor, no matter how absurd, they'll disregard the facts. Something widely known in geology is that

The Sixth Great Extinction?

Image
According to standard secular geology, Earth has dealt with five "great" extinction events. Recently, new inquiries prompted speculations that there was a sixth major event. None of these fit standard uniformitarian assumptions (present processes are what happened way back when as well as not; "the present is the key to the past"), however. Credit: Pixabay / Free-Photos The megasequences studied must be the result of catastrophic instead of gradual processes. The best explanation for what is observed in found in creationary models of the Genesis Flood. (I know, some tinhorns will say that the Genesis Flood is fiction and could never happen, but such illogical faith statements disqualify them from serious discussion. A response that can be summed up as "Because evolution" is not a rebuttal, Skippy.) Further, the new proposals not only support biblical creation science, but may cause some reworking of our models as well. Geology students memorize the

Secular Geomorphology Fails to Explain Landforms

Image
Some things sound simple at the onset, and can be generally true. Suppose I saddle up the horse and want to ride 100 miles (161 km). I make it 20 miles (32 km) the first day. Simple math says I'll be done in five days, don't you reckon? But I assumed that, since I started on flat terrain, it would be that way the entire trip. No washed-out gullies to go around, no steep inclines, the horse doesn't go lame or get tired, and so forth. Also, I can't make a blanket statement that this distance can be traveled by horse in five days, because I'm assuming that the horse I'm riding would be typical of all horses. " Mesa in the autumn ", Lake Meredith, Texas image credit: US National Park Service This is similar to uniformitarian assumptions. Watching a stream erode the banks and calculate, you can get a rate of erosion — but that has a whole heap of assumptions, including that the water flow does not change. Secular geologists like to use millions of yea

Research into the Pre-Flood World

Image
Biblical creationists have long wondered about the world before the Genesis Flood, including why people lived longer. Speculations abound. One thing upon which creationists and secular scientists agree is that the atmosphere was different. Some interesting hyperbaric research ties into geology. Credit: Pixabay /  Sebastian Ganso There is evidence that the ancient atmosphere was much richer in oxygen and had greater pressure, which is indicated by fossils of very large critters. Hyperbaric chambers are used to treat patients with increased pressure and oxygen levels. Their cell metabolisms and telomeres in chromosomes are positively affected, and this may be an indication for why pre-Flood people lived such huge amounts of time. All of this is in preliminary stages as far as creation science is concerned, and it will be interesting to see what other creation scientists have to contribute. There are some strong indications about ancient Earth's atmosphere from this hyperbaric researc

More Evidence of Noah's Flood in Australia

Image
stock.xchng/liqfx Fossil graveyards have been discovered for many years, and more are being found. The fossils recently discovered in Geebung (near Brisbane) fit the biblical creationist Flood geology model quite well, despite the attempts of uniformitarian evolutionists to say otherwise. Overpass construction at Geebung, a northern Brisbane suburb, has dug up fossils of crocodiles, frogs, fish, shells and plants, buried in the last stages of Noah’s Flood, about 4,500 years ago. A piling rig recovered the fossils from a layer of oil shale some 15 m underground and dumped them in a spoil heap, where they were noticed. The fossils were within an area of sedimentary deposits that geologists have called the Petrie Formation. These cover an area of some 50 km north of the mouth of the Brisbane River. The Petrie Formation is one of a number of Tertiary basins in the Brisbane area, which include the Booval and Oxley Groups south of the Brisbane River. These basins consi

Krichauff Range and a Call for Research

Image
Up in mountainous areas, someone may look down on a river. How did that get there? Nobody saw it carving its way over millions of Darwin years. Apparently, there is a dearth of research from geologists, despite several explanations based on their assumptions of deep time and uniformitarianism. These are called water gaps , which actually testify of the Genesis Flood . Selecting an argument for the formation of water gaps can be highly problematic, quite possibly based more on personal preference than compelling evidence. Finke River / Menphrad /  Wikimedia Commons There are unique features in the Kirchauff Range in Australia, graciously provided by the Finke River and Ellery Creek. These channels travel through several water gaps. They are inadequately explained by deep time concepts, and are better explained by Flood geology. The paper linked below is short but technical, and calls for additional research by creationists so Flood models can be improved. The term water gap, or transve
