Ichthyosaur Burial Explanations Getting Worse

Image
As said before, Question Evolution Day (12 February) is multifaceted. In addition to speech and academic freedoms, it is an encouragement to get people to ride up on the hill to look at the bigger picture — and think . Folks cannot simply accept the assertions of scientists regarding historical science and origins. There should be a passel of red flags dropping when reading explanations about a group of ichthyosaurs that were fossilized. One flag is that secularists have been attempting to explain it for decades. The latest effort is...truly bizarre; that should be a red flag all by itself. Shastasaurus altispinus (ichthyosaur), WikiComm / Dmitry Bogdanov ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ) On a quick side note, people group critters like these, mastodons, pterosaurs, and others with dinosaurs. It makes things easier when issuing postage stamps and the Bag-O-Plastic-Toy-Figures. And casual conversation. Ichthyosaurs came in various shapes and sizes, and there are numerous types. Some rivaled (and poss

The Genesis Flood, Doggerland, and the Ice Age

Image
In uniformitarian beliefs, Earth is billions of years old and most geological events happened slowly. With their deep-time assumptions, there were multiple ice ages in the distant past that did not leave evidence of their occurrences. The so-called last ice age is what is usually discussed. Sea levels were lower for a good part of the Ice Age. Land bridges connected many parts of the world , such as Australia to New Guinea, Alaska to Siberia, the Weald-Artois Anticline connecting Britain and France, etc. People and animals traveled. That last one is the area where Doggerland was above water for a spell. Doggerland, Wikimedia Commons / Polaris999 (PD) Although there are speculations about places and events in the past, Doggerland was real. Artifacts are being found even now. Sea levels were lower, but the ice sheets melted and the levels rose again. Doggerland was submerged. The land bridge connecting Britain and France was destroyed. All y'all gotta stay put, c'est la vie. Sec

The Heavenly Promotion of Dr. John D. Morris

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  It was not entirely surprising for me to learn that Dr. John D. Morris had passed away on 29 January 2023, since he had health problems that included at least one previous stroke. Not until recently did I learn that in 1975 he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. But Dr. John was not the type to let the bad circumstances take over. Back in 1991, I was able to travel to Schaumburg, Illinois and attend a Back to Genesis conference that ICR was conducting. I met not only Dr. John Morris, but Dr. Henry M. Morris, Dr. Duane Gish, and Ken Ham. The presentations impacted me tremendously...memory flicker...if I rightly recollect, I helped with the movie projector between talks. Dr. John D. Morris image via Institute for Creation Research John was a busy man, even after he retired from being president of ICR . Before that, he was convinced that Noah's Ark could be found, and was involved in efforts to do just that. His stories could be made into impressive and exci

Badlands: Made by the Genesis Flood

Image
When one mentions South Dakota, Mt. Rushmore may come to mind. More exciting to geologists are the Black Hills and Badlands. Millions of people flock to Badlands National Park  every year. It would definitely be a different kind of experience. Secular geologists have their slow 'n' gradual uniformitarian views of how the rock formations came to be, but their stories do not support scientific facts. Indeed, creation science models of the Genesis Flood present far better explanations of what is observed. Badlands formations with prairie grasses, NPS Photo / Troy Hunt (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) Clay, mudstone, shale, all that good stuff is claimed by secular geologists to have been laid down over long periods of time — just look at the way it is now! Sure, some of that is happening nowadays, but this shows a mighty big flaw in their paradigm. Present processes are not a guarantee that things happened tin the same way all along. Come on, man, that's ma

Genesis, Ephesus Harbor, and Radiocarbon Dating

Image
Rivers produce sediment through erosion, and they also pick up other particles, eventually dropping the silt when the currents decrease. At the mouth of a river, dropped silt changes the landscape. Harbors get clogged over time. The city of Ephesus was important in New Testament times, and was located on an estuary of the River Kaystros. This became silted up and useless as a harbor, and the silting was observed in recorded history. Geologists are studying the area but have troubles with the dating methods. Views of the harbor road in Ephesus, Flickr / michael.berlin ( CC BY-SA 2.0 ) Core samples were taken, but the radiometric dating involved has a great deal of difficulty from contamination and that cold ocean water inflates the results. There are also problems correlating dates with historical records. It is indeed unfortunate that secularists reject biblical history and creation science Genesis Flood and Ice Age models out of hand, since those would help them get better radiocarbo

Another Cambrian Fossil Frustrates Evolutionists

Image
The  Cambrian explosion  has been a persistent problem for evolution since the time that Darwin roamed the earth. A passel of fossils are found from major phyla in the Cambrian, but no sign of transitional forms. Darwin's acolytes try to evosplain it away, but the problem remains insurmountable. Fossils of some tube-like thingies were previously found that were the subject of speculation. Finally, paleontologists have an idea of what the builders looked like. They got more than they bargained for. Gangtoucunia life restoration, WikiComm / Guangxu Zhang, Luke A. Parry, Jakob Vinther and Xiaoya Ma ( CC BY 4.0 ) As we have seen several times before, so it happens again: When faced with evidence that doesn't fit their schemes, evolutionists ballyhoo a sort of victory or evolutionary insight. Their knowledge of evolution has advanced. No, it hasn't, Hoss. Fossilized, well-preserved soft tissues were discovered. Also, the Cambrian explosion is strong evidence for the global Gen

Amazing Everglades

Image
What comes to mind when someone mentions the Everglades down Florida way? Heat, wetlands, alligators, airboats, birds, sock a little poke sallet to me... Sure, those are some obvious traits, but there is a great deal more to this very large subtropical wilderness and national park . Everglades National Park is an amazing ecosystem, but not just one uniform piece of real estate. There are several systems called sub-biomes . Different critters have been equipped by the Master Engineer to survive, adapt, and thrive there. The geological origin is also quite interesting. Everglades, National Park Service / G. Gardner (usage does not imply endorsement of site contents) Some of the photographs I've shared on my weblogs included flowers that I later learned were "invasive." They are called that because they're not native to an area and get obnoxious by taking over. They're built to survive. The stories of alligators in New York City sewers are mostly myth. Unfortunatel

Mount Hermon and the Genesis Flood

Image
Unlike Mt. Sinai , the location of Mt. Hermon seems to be undisputed. (Certain things about its ownership are contested by nations, but never mind about that now.) As it is with other mountainous areas, it is difficult to identify  that one ; Mt. Hermon has three distinct peaks. It is significant in the Bible for several reasons , such as a border marker and probably the place of Jesus' transfiguration. It has also been sacred to other people for a mighty long time. Perhaps there is something to the idea that it was home to the Nephilim? Mount Hermon, Library of Congress , 1905 People have long been interested in end-times prophecy, and it seems to be increasing because of the state of the world today. Mt. Hermon is a focal point for some views. This child is mostly convinced about the identity of the Nephilim, but people have differing views from their own reasons. I have no interest in presenting my beliefs here. Instead, there are things to consider when people who erroneously

Dismissing Creation Science with Fake Definitions

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen When I confronted Rusty Swingset, foreman at the Darwin Ranch near Deception Pass, about why they refuse to consider evidence from biblical creation science, he had a simple reply: "It is not science". I was amazed, and argued that those scientists did not get their degrees from Billy Joe's Bible Church Academy and Bait Shop. In addition, many of them work or previously worked in science professions. To dismiss them out of hand is ridiculous and even cowardly. How can they justify this attitude? Through arbitrary definitions in defense of the General Theory of Evolution. Ashokan Reservoir from Glendord Dike, Unsplash / Cowboy Bob Sorensen (modified with FotoSketcher) Some years ago, I wrote about a new "Golden Rule" where whoever controls the definitions in a debate or discussion makes the rules . People can "define" science in any way that suits their agenda. Many internet atheists I have encountered try to slap leather with cr

Why They Reject the Truths of Design and Creation

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Over at Evolution News, an Intelligent Design site run by the Discovery Institute, there was a fund-raising article. Nothing wrong with that since neither they nor biblical creation science organizations receive government funding — unlike the secular science industry. The author, Dr. John G. West, raised some points worth discussing in " The Biggest Obstacle to Accepting Intelligent Design ". Regular readers know that I have serious reservations about the "big tent" ID movement, but they often do good work showing flaws in minerals-to-microbiologist evolution. Both ID and creationists use intelligent design arguments about living things and specified complexities. Engineer at work, Pexels / RF._.studio Dr. West says the biggest obstacle for people to accept Intelligent design is: Not hearing the evidence in the first place . I reckon there's some truth to that. A spell back I was telling someone that I promote creation science, and the o

Enigmatic Clastic Pipes and Flood Geology

Image
Ever see those rocks sticking up, especially in the American Southwest? They vary a great deal in size and are consistently vertical. Those are clastic pipes . Quite a few are found at the Kodachrome Basin State Park , but they exist around the world. Uniformitarian (gradual processes over long periods of time) geologists are baffled by clastic pipes, since clastic rock is comprised of pieces of other rocks that were broken and re-formed. They have several competing speculations on how the pipes formed. Some suggest they also exist on Mars . Clastic pipes at Kodachrome Basin State Park, Pixabay / Aline Dassel Deep-time views are inconsistent with what is observed, and would require some unlikely scenarios in numerous places. (That is, clastic pipes are not a one-off anomaly in a specific region.) Creation geologists agree with their secular counterparts that earthquakes played a part in their formation, but they would have had to have been extremely strong. Also, there is a great dea

A New Reformation Using Creation

Image
Years ago, I was in an Untied Methodist Church (misspelling intentional) and my father was the pastor. The theology was liberal (but far worse now). There was a program where laypeople came in and gave some talks to spark the congregation into a closer walk with Jesus. We got wound up and started our own programs, but the excitement eventually faded and the church was essentially the same as it was before. One problem was that it had a weak foundation. Another was that church leadership did not uphold the authority of the Word of God. Something similar happened with the Reformation. Wittenburg church door, Wikimedia Commons / AlterVista ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ) Martin Luther was not trying to overthrow the Roman Catholic Church, he just had some issues that needed to be addressed. Catholicism needed to be reformed, but the Reformation resulted in Protestantism and people believing what the Bible said. Scripture, not Pope or priest, was the final authority. Science was growing and thriving bec

Rational Thinking — Now More than Ever!

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  Other biblical creationists and I emphasize rational (critical) thinking, and to use it plus healthy skepticism. Such thinking is not just for sciences or academic purposes, but is helpful every day. We use it daily to some degree or another, often without realizing it. If you will mount up and ride the trail with me, I will provide a fun piece, some examples from feral atheists, a bit of strange pseudoscience, then move onto more specific ways that we use logic every day — and why such thinking is extremely important right now. Woman thinking by water, Pexels / Engin Akyurt Something I'd like to give you to put in your pocket right now. You can take it out every now to look at: Undue haste is a tool of Satan. Yeah, it's a mite overstated, but memorable. When being pressured to make a decision right now , with no time to stop and think, you are probably better off not making any changes. I remember times of being hurried that were disastrous. On occasion

Rejecting the Dinosaur Extinction Consensus

Image
While the prevailing view is that a big rock from space smashed into Earth, causing dinosaur extinction and the rise of the mammals, it was never accepted by all secular scientists in those fields. There are reasons to doubt that it happened . For a spell there, volcanoes were thought to play a big part in dinosaur extinction. It was suggested that an asteroid hit and then volcanic activity took over. Volcanoes were put on the back burner (heh!), but now someone wants to bring them back. Yucatán asteroid impact illustration, WikiComm / Donald E. Davis (NASA, public domain) Evolutionists have not been honest about the facts. Even in their scheme, dinosaurs coexisted with birds and mammals — which causes serious problems for them to promptly ignore. (Also, the possibility of one or more asteroid strikes at the time of the Genesis Flood has been proposed by some biblical creationists, and volcanic activity is also involved!) Secular scientists thought that the impact caused the volcanism

Antarctic, Greenland Ice Sheets and the Genesis Flood

Image
While I get along most of the time with Rusty Swingset, Cliff Swallows, and their workers at the Darwin Ranch, their vexatious antics get tiresome. It seems that atheists and other evolutionists get overwrought about biblical creation science, so they refuse to consider our answers to what they are attacking. In this case, the ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland. There are several and all are given huge ages in Darwin years. That is considered proof that the biblical timescale is wrong and should be discarded. Not hardly! Greenland ice sheet, Flickr / Bernt Rostad ( CC BY 2.0 ) The main problem with deep time is that facts are first filtered through...wait for it...the narrative. Secularists take interpretation-laden "facts" and use them to support their views. Scientific material that does not support the narrative is ignored, waved away, or adjusted so it fits. Meanwhile, biblical creationists do  have an explanation for the Ice Age, ice sheets, and other cool stuff usi

More Tracks Down Paluxy Way

Image
Those dinosaur footprints way down around the Paluxy River, at  Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas (where people can not only see but also put their own feet in them) are back in the news. Secular scientists have been talking about them for a long time, as have biblical creationists (see " The Paluxy River Mystery " from 1986 for one instance). The 2022 drought has brought more of them to light, and they are reminders that the debate is not settled. Dinosaur track at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, TX, Flickr / mcdlttx ( CC BY 2.0 ) These tracks are mysteries wrapped in flour enigma shells and lovingly smothered with riddle sauce. How do footprints form in the first place? Why are the Paluxy tracks only of dinosaurs and no other animals? Fossil bonebeds, with their jumbles of critters from disparate environments, should seriously disrupt evolutionary ideas by themselves. Paluxy only has dinosaur tracks. Secularists can tell stories all they want, but it

The Oldest Rocks Before the Flood

Image
As anyone who has spent even a little bit of time examining biblical creation science knows, we emphasize the Genesis Flood. It explains what is observed in geology far better than uniformitarian (slow and gradual processes over much time) ideas. The Flood also shows that Earth is young, and that God judged the world. What seems to be largely ignored are the oldest rocks that were here before the Flood. You have probably heard of the Cambrian explosion , where fossils of critters appear  fully formed . Before that was the appropriately-named Precambrian. Roaring Brook Falls (NY), Flickr / James St. John ( CC BY 2.0 ) This one is where you can find pre-Flood rocks, and there is a planed (shaved flat) surface that spans the continents. During Creation Week, God made the land on the third day, which probably involved raising it up out of the water. A lot of land, a lot of water, a lot of runoff and erosion. Using biblical chronology, the Flood happened about 1,600 years after creation, s

Large-Scale Ancient Structures Made by Early Humans

Image
When searching for kite , there are things people put up into the sky and hold onto with strings, or certain birds of prey. In this case, structures in the desert that aircraft pilots said resembled those string-held kites. Darwinists hold to the dogma that humans were stupid after they finished evolving from an apelike critter, so the timeline involves being hunter-gatherers, hanging around in caves, and doing very little for a few thousand years. As we have seen, evidence consistently shows that they were very intelligent. One of many examples involves those kite-like structures. Safawi Kite 101, Flickr / Aerial Photographic Archive for Archaeology in the Middle East ( CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 ) Such kites have been known for a spell, and serious research has been undertaken with remote sensing. Hundreds of these star-shaped kites have been discovered. (I am using the word star  loosely, as the things had numerous points.) They were intelligently designed and took many people working togethe
