Evolutionists go Batty about Echolocation

Image
Humans are proud of sonar, which uses sound waves to locate objects. Waves are transmitted, strike an object, and people can calculate its size, shape, and location. Good stuff, Maynard! Sonar in animals is called echolocation , used by dolphins, bats, and others. They do it with far more sophistication than human inventions. Lazy Darwinists are content to call the same property in different critters convergent evolution , but have not demonstrated any  evolution. In fact, there is no sign of evolution in fossilized bats at all, even after supposed millions of years. Batman Lego in egg, Pixabay / Andrew Martin (not implying endorsement of anything by anybody) Better fossil specimens of all sorts of things are being found. Science and technology are advancing. This gives paleontologists the ability to study something and get a great deal of detail. It was thought at one time that echolocation in bats evolved after they had been around a while, but a recent finding shows that they had t

Two Living Things that Give Off Salt

Image
There are words with phile  or similar in them that often mean a love of something, such as philosophy (love or wisdom or learning). The word structure can also make it seem like an organism has a fondness for something, actually meaning that it thrives in a certain environment. A thermophile  lives in extremely hot areas such as the thermal vents on the ocean floor. Want to take a crack at halophyte ? That one is a bit tricky, but it uses the word for salt. There are plants that thrive in saline conditions inhospitable to many other plants. Athel Tamarisk, iNaturalist / Xochitl Zambrano ( CC BY 4.0 ) Athel tamarisk is one of those stubborn plants that lives in deserts and is found in many parts of the world. One of its handels is the Athel pine, and it does resemble pine in some ways. It is also useful as a windbreak, and since it doesn't burn easily, it can be used to hinder fire. When it lives in saline conditions, it actually gives off salt! Athel tamarisk was designed by the

Evolution Narrative Drives Bird Tracks in Dinosaur Strata Story

Image
The story is that the geologic column shows fossils in an orderly progression from simple to complex, and the fossil record is complete, without gaps. Russell Watchtower and his Ministry of Truth at the Darwin Ranch up near Deception Pass have been successfully convincing folks that the preceding is a true story. In reality, there are fossils out of order. If people had healthy skepticism and dared to question evolution, they would know about fossil placement problems. A new report on fossilized bird footprints sparked a rescuing device. It did not go well. One of the birdlike footprints from Maphutseng, Lesotho (left), and a false colour depth map of the print (right) PLOS ONE 2023 / Abrahams et al. 2023 (CC-BY 4.0) via New Scientist There must be quite a few stupid people buying the malarkey that evolutionists put out. The predominant narrative dictates that dinosaurs evolved into birds despite no actual evidence. Instead of questioning the story, some other critters came around and

Sunflower Motion — More Complex than Thought

Image
Sunflowers are one of the easiest flowers to identify, what with those big yellow heads loaded with sometimes 2,000 seeds and such. They are also a provision of the Creator for our benefit, grown and harvested for oil and the seeds, which are healthy — and may be a substitute for people with nut allergies . Of course, a famous characteristic is how young sunflowers track the sun from east to west. It was thought that this was a kind of phototropism, which is when plants and fungi grow toward (or away from) a light source. Sunflowers, Pixnio / Bruce Fritz It has been learned that this ability of young sunflowers to follow the sun across the sky (even on cloudy days) is heliotropism . It is not fully understood and is very complex. Plants adapt to changes in conditions, and different genes are expressed in response to certain conditions. This is yet another example of the Master Engineer at work. Botanists have long wondered how heliotropism works to allow this amazing plant to track th

Mammoth Antibodies and Radiocarbon Dating

Image
Antibodies are an important part of the immune system. They are proteins that circulate in the bloodstream looking for harmful antigens. Those are enemy bacteria, viruses, and such. Each antibody is unique, defending against specific antigens. So how do they last in mammoths for assumed millions of years? A study showed that antibodies in mammoths were still able to do their jobs — but antibodies break down over time like other biological things. To support deep time, researchers assumed deep time, which was circular reasoning. They also ignored essential biology. Mammoths, Wikimedia Commons / Honymand / ( CC BY-SA 4.0 ) We recently saw that dating methods on human fossils are unreliable , and similar problems occur in radiocarbon dating here. Consider that Carbon-14 dating of Viking burials in England were at odds with historical records . It is known that radiocarbon dating is increasingly less trustworthy with greater age. To claim that antibodies in these mammoths are of great ant

The Ice Age and Sleeping Bear Dunes

Image
The lower peninsula of Michigan is rather large, and when the upper peninsula is added, the size is more impressive. In the northern regions, there are interesting features testifying of the Genesis Flood, including Mackinac Island and Pictured Rocks . People from Lower Michigan have convenient maps of the area in their hands, pointing out where they lived and traveled. (Since I lived my first forty years there, I point to several locations on my map.) Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is renowned for its beauty. It also interests geologists. Sleeping Bear Dunes, Flickr / Rachel Kramer ( CC-BY-2.0 ) There is abundant evidence that glaciers did a great deal of carving and landscaping. Once they receded, the land gave a sigh of relief and began to change shape some more. The city of Petoskey is near the Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the state stone is also called Petoskey. It is actually made of fossilized corals moved by the glaciers. The dunes and the Ice Age are a result of the glo

Downward Spiral of Secular Cosmology

Image
We have seen that, according to the expectations of secular cosmologists, the universe does not act its age. Expected antiquity is absent, and celestial bodies in our own solar system show activity that should not be happening. The bigger picture of the universe is also troubling to cosmic evolution. Earth orbits the sun, a well-behaved star in a galaxy with billions of its closest friends. Our galaxy is called the Milky Way. It is part of a larger group and...things just keep getting bigger. Barred spiral galaxies (like ours is thought to be) are another problem for secular scientists. Hubble image of barred spiral galaxy, NASA , ESA, et al  (usage does not imply endorsement) (modified at PhotoFunia ) It's that pesky James Webb Space Telescope contraption again. Secularists put that thing up there to confirm their biases about the Big Bang and the age of the universe, and they may very well be having some regrets. Spiral galaxies, expanding universe — okay, fine. But according to

Science Leaves Unbelievers Without Excuse

Image
Somewhere around 56 AD, Paul wrote the Epistle to the Romans. Presuppositional apologists such as this child frequently refer to Romans 1:18-23 which explains that evidence for God is obvious to everyone. They are without excuse, choosing to unrighteously suppress the truth. As I have stated before, science and technology progress and humanity discovers all sorts of things that testify of the Creator. These can be in the deepest parts of space or found under high-powered microscopes. Scientists are realizing that organisms appear to be engineered. Ribosome mRNA, Wikimedia Commons / LadyofHats (PD) When someone in the secular science industry uses words that even hint at design and creation, it's "Katie, bar the door!" time. They want the praise to go to evolution. Someone will say that things appear  to be designed but they really are not. That is a theological opinion, old son, not science. Indeed, some are skittish about discussing biological machines  because those ar

Variations in Traits are Designed, not Random

Image
A word that is commonly used in discussions of genetics is alleles . Simply put , they are pairs of genes, one from each parent, that match. Alleles are on the chromosomes. They often have slight differences, and those as well as similarities affect organisms. People have tried to figure out where new traits that were not in a lineage came from. The Bearded Buddha had some ideas that he put into his version of natural selection. Gregor Mendel pioneered genetics (peas be upon him), and his research showed that Darwin was on the wrong trail. Wallkill Rail Trail at Kingston, NY, Unsplash / Cowboy Bob Sorensen (modified at PhotoFunia ) For a long time, it was believed that random mutations married up with natural selection to drive evolution. It was learned that DNA is heavily influenced by epigenetics . Evidence also shows that the Master Engineer designed living things to adapt, change how genes are expressed, and environment does not cause the changes. Sorry, Charlie. No, not really so

Amazing Post-Flood Population Growth

Image
In a discussion with Dewey Lye from the Darwin Ranch, I was attempting to change his mind about how the population grew after the Genesis Flood. (Trevor "Red" Schnapper stopped to listen just when it was getting good.) Dewey claimed that the Flood never happened because there were only eight people left alive in 2348 BC, there would not be time to build the population up to the current eight billion. The expression "do the math" is often used to tell someone to check the facts, and this case, it is also literal. Plastic people figures under globe, RGBStock / Sanja Gjenero Red asked, "The Bible records eight people, but to be blunt, weren't Noah and his wife done breeding at this point?" True, nothing is said about that old couple having additional children. Based on what we see in the rest of Scripture, including the Table of Nations (Genesis 10), there were only three couples having children. Mr. Lye's prejudicial conjecture can be negated with a

Mercury Troubles Deep-Time Scientists

Image
Many of the planets in our solar system are recalcitrant toward deep time, as seen from  Pluto at one end and Mercury at the other . There is a frequent problem for cosmology in that planets and moons are showing signs of relative youth, not billions of years. Indeed, our own moon shows geological activity . Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system, only slightly larger than dwarf planet Pluto. But it has a magnetic field (as predicted by biblical creationist Dr. D. Russell Humphreys ). It is also showing recent geological activity. NASA / Johns Hopkins University APL / Carnegie Institution (usage does not imply endorsement) Secular scientists expect that planets cooled after their formation from hot gasses a mighty long time ago, but they are seeing that evidence does not fit their views. Certain features on the surface of Mercury are dated at an upper limit of 300 million years. (Anti-creationists may scoff at this and other upper limits because they don't support bib

Spider Fossil Good News for Creationists

Image
It seems that most fossils being found nowadays are good news for creationists, what with excellent preservation, computerized tomography ( as used here ), and all that good stuff. New South Wales is a state on the east coast of 'Straya, the centre of which is home to McGraths Flat. It is a research area, and they are finding some interesting fossils (expect more in the future). A brushfooted trapdoor spider fossil was on the large side. Although mostly the same as its modern counterpart, Darwin's disciples naturally cheered evolution. Brushfooted trapdoor spider in Brisbane, Australia, Flickr / Robert Whyte ( CC BY-NC-ND ) Other spider fossils have been discovered there, and even tiny ones can be examined in minute detail. I find this amazing because we're talking about stone that gets examined, not soft tissues. Once again, we see that creatures had to be buried in the right conditions (rapidity is a big part of it) so scientists can examine those details. They could not

Humans Brains Wired for Visual Perception

Image
Reverend Thomas Bayes (1701-1761) could not have dreamed that his work would be extremely important in statistics, usually in the form of the Bayesian inference . It has been discovered that the human brain uses this advanced cognition ability — built in by the Master Engineer. There is no need here to delve into details of how the theorem or the inference work. Suffice to say that new information reaches the mind, then it is compared to existing knowledge to see if existing knowledge needs to be changed. X-ray-style image of skull and brain, Freeimages / Miranda Knox The complexity of the brain has long been a problem for evolutionists. Interestingly, the paper discussing the experiment that concluded that we are wired for advanced thinking skills is quite interesting. Evolution was mentioned needlessly in it, and the word  design was used. That is far more logical than to think evolution could build the complexities of the human brain. As neurological research continues, it will onl

Getting a Head on an Arthropod Fossil

Image
There sure is a huge number of high-quality fossils coming out of China. While healthy skepticism is in order because of the people selling fakes in certain areas , the quantity is impressive. It may be that some are so plentiful, they are boring to scientists. Oh goodie, another trilobite... Alert eyes can spot and reference something new or a superior specimen to something already known. Then they can use some of that impressive technology and get the details. This happened with a Kylinxia  fossil and a CT scan. Kylinxia zhangi , Wikimedia Commons / Junnn11 ( CC BY-SA 4.0 ) This critter looks like several others, so this child doesn't envy paleontologists who need to tell them apart. Anyway, computerized tomography (the CT in a CT scan) involves numerous X-rays. Kylinxia  got the treatment and the soft stuff of its head buried in the rock was revealed. Of course, secularists promptly began telling evidence-free Just-So Stories about what went on in the distant past millions of D

The Venus Flytrap and Fire Sensing

Image
There are a few in the secular science industry who are not content with a simplistic " it evolved " response, they want do dig in deeper. Especially when something like the Venus flytrap has baffled them for years. The more they study, the more puzzling it is. This little plant from the Carolinas in the formerly United States has been treated like a toy by some people. It will not snap shut by just any touch. Similarly, a rapid increase in heat can cause it to snap shut. Venus flytraps, morgueFile / xianstudio Researchers tested the plants with heat to see what happens, and this child wonders if they had a bit of fun like some kids might. Imagine... "Whatcha doin' with that hot air blower, Bo?" "Gladja came along, Cletus. Watch this." He blows hot air on the Venus flytrap and it closes. Well, I would have had fun. Anyway, those plants are not going to close up shop just because it's a hot day. The blower experiment revealed that they shut their t

More Dinosaur Fossils, Further Flood Evidence

Image
Sometimes it is difficult not to laugh when someone says that there is no evidence for the Genesis Flood, and that it played no part in dinosaur extinction. But secular scientists cannot disagree with the fact that billions of fossils are found in sedimentary rocks. Although the secular paradigm is uniformitarianism (slow and gradual process over long periods of time), even they are beginning to invoke the occasional watery catastrophe when they find it necessary. There are echoes of this in recent findings including two new dinosaurs near Morocco. Rugops primus , pencil drawing, Wikimedia Commons / Nobumichi Tamura / ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ) There are parts of North America, England, China and others that attract paleontologists. Some areas are underexplored (which makes some sense, no cause to dig when little or nothing has been found). The big Chicxulub asteroid story is the favorite for the extinction of dinosaurs, but not all secularists are on board. That's why there's a passel

Garden of the Gods and the Genesis Flood

Image
If you ever find yourself out Colorado way and have a notion to take in some nature, then the city of Colorado Springs may be of interest. A place called Garden of the Gods is actually in the city limits. It is not a national park, and is free of charge. (Of course, the recreation area has some fees.) Look off yonder, you can see Pikes Peak! The signs and such will gladly tell you a passel of geology, but unfortunately it tells secular deep-time stories that get things wrong. Cathedral Spires at Garden of the Gods, Library of Congress / William Henry Jackson , 1905 If someone wanted to learn Genesis Flood geology, this would be a great place to start. There are some amazing layouts from all that sandstone. Something to note is a detail of which uniformitarianism cheerleaders on teh interwebs seem to be willingly ignorant: the Great Unconformity . Hundreds of millions of years (according to secular stories) are missing, and it is also seen in the Grand Canyon — and spans continents. Th

The Rhythm of the Woodpecker

Image
A few days ago, I met up with Ruby Slippers, a good friend of Stormie Waters. She told me they had been out riding in Stormie's buckboard on a nice day and found themselves near the Darwin Ranch. Russell Watchtower was practicing his upcoming lecture on woodpeckers. When the girls told me about it, I was a mite surprised. As we discussed before, woodpeckers showcase the skill of the Master Engineer , so it would be smart for evolutionists to skirt that subject. Instead, they have some more fact-free science to present to the gullible. Hand-feeding a Downy Woodpecker, Unsplash / Tevin Trinh Apparently the woodpecker has a certain gene in common with songbirds, therefore, evolution. It is  interesting that in addition to pecking to get into trees and such to chow down on insects, they use their specially-reinforced beaks and heads to drum those rapid bursts. Drumming substitutes for singing a bird song. This testifies of the Creator, not evolution, old son. The sweet melody of songb

Homology, Convergence, and Evolutionary Mythology

Image
Proponents of descent with modifications evolution have several fundamental beliefs, many of which are comprised of inference, ignoring relevant data, and Making Things Up™. Homology involves studying similar characteristics in living things and insisting that they have common ancestors. Convergence  is another fundamental dogma, asserting that totally different organisms evolved the same traits. Convergent evolution is — face it — a secular miracle. Both convergence and homology rely a great deal on assumptions and imagination. Further, evolution is presupposed to be the only explanation for what is observed. Astyanax mexicanus , Wikimedia Commons / Citron ( CC BY-SA 3.0 ) Blind cave fish have lost traits (which for some reason inspires praise to Darwin), and developed adaptations. In addition to various cavefish species, other cave-dwelling critters also have adaptations. To appeal to convergence is a science stopper. Instead, creatures should be investigated for the built-in tra

Creation and the Fine-Structure Constant

Image
Mathematicians are obviously fond of numbers, but some are exceptionally intriguing to them. A few have been discovered in comparatively recent times. In nature and architecture there is the Golden Ratio , and physics has a passel of constants that physicists wrestle over. Theoretical physicists have long been puzzled by the unsolvable fine-structure constant . This bad boy makes appearances in many areas of physics, and apparently relates to charged particles and the electromagnetic force. If it were different, life would not be possible! Expression of fine-line constant according to Bing AI image generator Secular scientists have no idea of the source for the fine-structure constant. That, and its importance to life, are two probable reasons that this number becomes an obsession for some quantum mechanics physicists. It even sets the size of atoms! The fine-structure constant is so important and unique, it is clearly an example of the Creator's genius. The job of physicists is to
