When discussions turn to dinosaur extinction, those of a secular mindset invariably say that it was caused by the huge rock from the sky that hit  Chicxulub . Although it is the most common claim, there is no consensus. Indeed, this smashing story raises a prairie schooner-full of questions . The Chicxulub impact is a non-answer for dinosaur extinction, and people with any knowledge in this area should be aware of it. Some scientists think it was the big slam and  volcanic activity that did in the dinosaurs . Well, there are still unanswered questions — and more are being asked. Needing to get some thinking done and do it outdoors, I saddled up and took a leisurely ride to nowhere in particular. Eventually I heard the sounds of people working. There sure is a huge number of high-quality fossils coming out of China. While healthy skepticism is in order because of the people selling fakes in certain areas , the quantity is impressive. It may be that some are so plentiful, they are boring to scientists. Oh goodie, another trilobite... Alert eyes can spot and reference something new or a superior specimen to something already known. Then they can use some of that impressive technology and get the details. This happened with a Kylinxia  fossil and a CT scan. Also, the technical parts will appeal to some people while the rest of us read around those and learn something anyway. Believers in deep time think that drilled ice cores provide evidence for millions of years, but there are problems that are not brought to the table. Including faulty logic. When we learn about the genius of ancient humans, most people probably find examples of it mighty interesting. Darwin's disciples who are consistent with their beliefs find these things problematic. Down South America way in an interesting meeting place of Venezuela, Brazil, and Guyana is flat-top Mount Roraima. Mountains like this are said to have been planed flat by erosion, but planation surfaces are troublesome to secular geologists. One reason is that it is not seen happening today. For some reason, I never thought Katy would, but katydid. Fossilize, that is. And this fossil is extremely detailed, unlike those ammonites and things we find in the river or quarry. Believers in descent with modifications were aghast when Mary Schweitzer announced that soft tissues were found in dinosaur fossils. That is old news, but less old is the supercilious attempt to use iron as a preservative . Some fundamentalist evolutionists accepted that despite its glaring problems. There was a great deal of excitement about the James Webb Space Telescope, understandable when people saw some amazing images it produced. These were adjusted from the infrared. While it spends a great deal of time looking for extrasolar planets, JWST is also used for closer images. We recently considered the young rings of Saturn and the surprisingly warm moons of Jupiter , and more recently, the JWST revealed something startling from Enceladus, a moon of Saturn. For thousands of years, planets were only known as brighter stars that moved differently than the others in the night sky. Telescopes came on the scene, and more wonders unfolded. Keep in mind that the word fossil  is often used loosely in paleontology, not always permineralized (turned to stone). Think of Them! , the 1954 movie where atomic blasts caused ants to mutate into giants that ate people. Excellent science documentary.
